Hallandale Beach is a town in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 34,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The history of guns and gun gift giving begins with European settlers in what is now Hallandale Beach. Only shotguns were allowed to be purchased from the local Indian merchants, so shotguns became popular gifts for their protectors. In 1892, W. H. Armstrong founded Armstrong & Company which manufactured rifles and shotguns in Hallandale Beach and nearby Coral Gables. From this company came the Hallandale Arms Company which continued production until 1957 when it merged with Winchester Repeating Arms Company to form Winchester Incorporated (now Remington). In 1916, entrepreneur Harry Bendix bought a small shotgun manufactory in Fort Lauderdale and began making handguns there as well as rifles and shotguns under his own name- Harry Bendix Firearms Corporation (HBFC). This company produced firearms commercially until 1984 when it merged with Browning Machine & Tool Corporation to form Browning-H&R Corp., one of America's largest manufacturers of firearms including revolvers, pistols, rifles and shotguns. In addition to handgun manufacturing HBFC also produces ammunition for these products as well as sporting goods such as bows and arrows

The name Hallandale Beach comes from two local landmarks- Hallandale Hill and the Hillsborough River. The first reference to a beach here was in 1892 when H.L. Mencken wrote about how "the waves crash against the shore every day at two o'clock PM". In 1904, George Wickersham took a photo of the beach and included it in his book "A Photographers Guide to America's West Coast". This led to the development of what is now Halls Pointe Boulevard. In 1922, Myrtle Bogan donated land for $2 million which became known as Fountain Hills Village. This area would eventually become part of Palm Beach County while still being developed as an exclusive community for wealthy people and their families. Only after World War II did more people begin moving into Hallandale Beach due to its proximity to Hollywood and other major metropolitan areas. With this growth came increased traffic and pollution which caused many residents to leave over the years- mainly because they could no longer afford it or find similar quality of life elsewhere within Palm Beach County

The first white person to live in Hallandale Beach may have been Hugh Wills who settled there in 1885. Wills became interested in land development and began buying and selling tracts of land near the present day intersection of Flagler Avenue and Hallandale Boulevard. In 1907, he became an incorporator of what would become the city of Hallandale Beach. The town's name derives from two chief leaders of nearby Fort Lauderdale: Gilbert Crenshaw Sr., founder and first mayor of that city, and his father-in-law John Leland Crenshaw Sr., one of its original commissioners. In 1915, developers Arlen Fenton and Harry Weisbrot bought 1,000 acres (0.8 km2) north of downtown for $1 million; they named it "Hallandale". The weirs on this property diverted Sarasota Bay so that oil tankers could anchor offshore without becoming fouled by salt water intrusion into their storage tanks, which had been a problem during earlier drilling campaigns onshore In 1920–21 developer Julius Rosenwald acquired 7 percent ($20,000) interest in Fenton & Weisbrot's corporation for $600 thousand dollars; Rosenwald would later become head developer for both cities Fenton & Weisbrot developed some shopping centers including "The Pier" on Broward Boulevard east of I-95/USA 95 southbound between Federal Highway (former US 1) and State Road 592 east thereof Hugh Wills established himself as a real estate agent; he built several homes along Flagler Avenue near where it now intersects with Hallandale Boulevard before moving to operate his agency outgrew those locations around 1925 or 1926 hallandsalbeachhistory com

The original town site was a small community on the east side of Hallandale Beach near the present-day intersection of 1st Street and State Road 7. The town quickly grew to become one of the most popular beach towns in Florida, with its wide variety of attractions and beautiful sand beaches. In 1938, Hallandale Beach merged with neighboring Delray Beach to form the new city of Miami-Dade County. In 1983, Miami-Dade County merged with Broward County to form Florida's first metropolitan area.
