Hallandale Beach, Florida is a city located on the shores of Lake Okeechobee in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 57,553 at the 2010 census. The area now comprising Hallandale Beach was first settled by European settlers in 1836. It became a municipality in 1906 and an unincorporated community in 1938. The early coffee industry thrived in Hallandale Beach due to its fertile soil and easy access to water resources. In the 1840s, Spanish traders began to journey along the coast of South America and they discovered beans that were especially high quality and sweet. In 1845, one of these traders, José Martínez de la Rosa y Botega, brought beans back to Hallandale Beach with him from Peru. Coffee cultivation rapidly grew throughout the region as people realized how profitable it could be to grow this valuable crop. By 1860, coffee had become one of Hallandale Beach's most important industries. In 1909, local businessmen pooled their money and formed the Miami Dade Coffee Company to promote coffee production around town and sell cups of joe throughout Miami-Dade County. This company remains an important part of Hallandale Beach's history today because it helped spur development within the city and continue its role as an important economic engine for both Hallandale Beach residents and Miami-Dade County overall. Today, Hallandale Beach is home to more than 1 million people who rely on its businesses for their daily bread – including more than 350 small businesses that employ over 200 individuals directly or indirectly across eight industries including retail sales (restaurants), health care (clinics/medical centers), transportation (motor Vehicles/ taxis), manufacturing (steelmaking/foundries), information technology (telecommunications companies) and professional services (lawyers). Hallandale Beach is a small city in Broward County, Florida, United States. It was founded on August 30, 1931 by Burt Siegel and his wife Dora Halliday Siegel. The name comes from the phrase "hallandale high" which referred to the height of the beach during summertime. The first coffee shop in Hallandale Beach was called The Coffee House, opened in 1934 by Harry Heineman and his wife Rosie. In 1941, The Coffee House became The Coffee Bean & Tea Leaf and later moved to its current location on NW First Street in 1947. In 1951, Donny O'Donnell started the Sand Dollar Cafeteria in neighboring Fort Lauderdale and Hallandale Beach took over as its patron saint; it remains one of the city's most popular tourist destinations today. In 1972, an Italian restaurant opened at 5605 NW First Avenue called Pied Pipero; it closed in 2006 but reopened as a pizza place under new management several years later. In 1984-1985 an air conditioned clothing store called Jaxx opened at 6405 NW First Avenue; it closed after a few months due to low sales but reopened as a liquor store several years later under new management before closing again for good in 2009. In 1990-1991 an office tower called ParkWest Tower was built onland between Northwest First Street and Southwest Second Street across from North Miami Boulevard; it eventually collapsed due to seismic activity and has not been rebuilt since. Hallandale Beach is a town in Broward County, Florida, United States. The population was 34,814 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami–Fort Lauderdale–Hollywood Combined Statistical Area. The first settlers in Hallandale Beach were Methodists from North Carolina. In 1892, a group of Jewish immigrants from Russia landed at Fort Myers and founded the Russian Benevolent Society of America to help improve relationships with local Catholic churches. They named their new community after Saint Andrew's Chapel on Fort Myers' Palm Island; Hallandale was founded by Rev. Averil Harriman and Mrs. Lillian Waldorf Harriman on November 25, 1893. In 1904, businessman Harry Chandler bought land at what is now Sunrise Boulevard and Hallandale Drive for $1 million to create an exclusive beachfront resort area for himself and his guests. He changed the name to "Hallandale" after his ancestral home in Scotland—now known as Stratholme Castle— thus uniting both coasts of Scotland under one name (though still separate boarders). However, by 1916 business had slowed down because World War I had produced few vacationers and prices for beachfront property had increased because of wartime shortages of food and gasoline fuel. Chandler sold most or all of his holdings in 1946 to developer Johnnie Burchfield for $15 million cash plus perpetuity interests in two other properties: Holmby Hills (then called Miami Beach) and Hollywood Bowl (then called Wynwood). Burchfield turned out to be a miser who squandered much money on luxury projects such as an expensive ocean liner that never sailed and a world-class golf course he built but never filled with people because he could not find enough buyers willing to pay high prices for access to this prestigious address on South Beach Boulevard between Ocean Drive and Biscayne Boulevard. By 1984 only 8% remains of Burchfield's original development while more than 95% has been replaced or destroyed by later developers including some who recycled old materials used in earlier construction--a directly proportional reflection of how rapidly real estate values have soared since then which has led many residents to say they are " trapped ". The city manager estimated that less than 10% remains usable today due largely to overdevelopment . Despite its designation as a non-profit cultural district, much development takes place without any public input or involvement whatsoever; this includes plans for large apartment complexes along Sunrise Boulevard just south of State Road 710 which will impact zoning laws governing nearby residential plantations dating back centuries

Evans Elementary School opened as the first public school on Hallandale Beach Boulevard. In 1978, Hallandale Beach voters passed a resolution making it an official City of Miami suburb. In 1984, Hurricane Andrew destroyed much of what had been built along beachfront streets such as South Bay Boulevard and Biscayne Boulevard. Since then, much has been done to improve conditions along beachfront neighborhoods including construction ofCauseway Drive and improvements to Highway A1A which runs through them
