Hialeah Gardens, Florida is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. As of the 2010 census, the population was 516,821. The area that now makes up Hialeah Gardens was originally part of Miami Beach and was called "The Villages." In 1926, developer Harry Baccarelli developed what is now known as Hialeah Gardens. The original name for the community was Garden City because it had acreage for a garden on each lot. It wasn't until after World War II that the name changed to Hialeah because then-Mayor Manuel Diaz wanted to show support for returning veterans and their families. On November 7th, 1965, Hurricane Allison destroyed much of Miami Beach including Hialeah Gardens which never recovered from the devastation. Hialeah Gardens made its first steps in earnest as a municipality on May 30th, 1972 when Mayor Manuel Diaz approved the creation of an urban village with Planning Commission approval and groundbreaking took place on October 9th. The first residents moved into their new homes on December 1st and it quickly became apparent that there were problems with getting water or sewer service to all of these new buildings since they were built before either public works or zoning laws were finalized. However, Mayor Diaz persevered and within two years had solved all of those issues by issuing ordinances making it illegal to build without a permit from him or his appointed officials. This led to an increase in development activity due to people wanting to live close to city hall while still having access to all the amenities that Hialea had become famous for such as its beautiful golf courses (including Turnberry), high-end restaurants (including Lighthouse), nightlife (including several discos), and shopping malls (such as Sears). Today there are more than 10 thousand residential units in Hialeah Gardens with over half of them being rented out so everyone has at least some degree of convenience near them whether they're living downtown or outside town limits. One unique aspect about this sprawling metropolis is its rich history which can be found buried right beneath its surface thanks in part to two unusual events: first, when President John F Kennedy visited Miami during his visit through Air Force One; secondly, when Elvis Presley visited during his last tour before he died six months later in August 1977 at age 36 following a long battle with cancer which caused extensive damage both physically and emotionally throughout his life! Hialeah Gardens was founded in 1892 by Captain John Hialeah and his wife Anna. The City of Hialeah, which is now part of Miami-Dade County, was incorporated on May 14, 1893. Captain Hialeah died in 1895, but his wife continued to operate the gardens until her death in 1916. The city dedicated a park to the captain and his wife in 1926. In 1957, the city merged with Dade County to form Miami-Dade County. The Hialeah Gardens Park became a state-owned park in 1966 and remains so today. The garden originally consisted of 3 acres of land at Fifth Avenue and Northwest 72nd Street. In 1917, the city built a new main house for the captain and his wife on land that once belonged to Drury House on Northeast 95th Street. Over time, other properties were added to the garden including two tennis courts (1929), a swimming pool (1950), an observatory (1963), a botanical garden (1966), and an amphitheater (1978). In 1978, Mayor Carlos Gimenez created the "Citywide Parks program" which aimed to improve public access to parks throughout Miami-Dade County by creating new areas for recreation such as Hialeah Gardens Park. The program resulted in many additions to the park including a playground (1983), baseball diamond (1988), tennis court (.54 hectares) (1991), children's play area (.5 hectares) (), dog run (.5 hectare) (), volleyball court (.8 hectares) (), path leading from beachfront parking lot into botanical garden () . In 1995-1996, Mayor Alexi Castilla renovated portions of the park adding new trails, picnic tables and shelters along withnew lighting systems (). In 2003 Mayor Manny Diaz increased funding for the park from $2 million per year down to $4 million annually through special appropriation bills (). There are currently plans underway by Mayor Diaz's successor Raul Maimon Jr., who was elected last month after successful campaigns against current mayor Joe Laxalt II Walcott within Miami-Dadc county for executive office - including taking over management of Hialea Gardens Park -to increase environmental awareness about how best to use this important asset within our community
The original Hialeah Gardens was a man-made lake in the heart of Miami, Florida. The area now known as Hialeah Gardens was originally part of Indian Key, a plantation on Key Biscayne. In the early 1800s, the Key Biscayne Indians were forced to cede their land to Spain and England. When America gained independence in 1776, Spanish authorities took back what they had given up and renamed it Indian Key after their holdings in Miami. The first white settlers arrived in 1836 and began to build homes around the new lake. By 1839, there were over 20 families living in Indian Key. In 1845, Miami County was created from land that included key ridges on both coasts of Florida. In 1847, the U.S., Great Britain and Spain signed an agreement that ended the War for Cuba; under this pact, Cuba became part of the United States. As a result of this treaty, sugar cane plantations were established along the western seaboard of Florida including Hialeah Gardens. It wasn’t until 1861 when Congress passed legislation creating Dade County which included all of South Florida except for Dade City which remained within Miami-Dade County boundaries until 1907. When World War II started in 1939, most Americans did not believe that war would ever happen because they thought that Europe would eventually Treatyize themselves again! However Pearl Harbor changed everything and soon everyone knew that war was coming! On December 7th 1941 (the day after Japan attacked Pearl Harbor), President Franklin D Roosevelt declared war on Japan with Germany as our main allies! This declaration marked one of history’s biggest decisions – we were fighting two wars at once!
