National Guard gift history in Hialeah Gardens, Florida began with the activation of the Florida National Guard on November 9, 1947. The unit was first called the 109th Infantry Regiment and its initial purpose was to provide security for military installations in south Miami-Dade County. The regiment served until 1958 when it was reactivated as the 119th Infantry Regiment under command of Major General James L. Klingman. The regiment remained active until 1986 when it became defunct due to the demobilization of the military in that state. In 1987, members of the 119th Infantry Regiment Association formed a committee to create a national guard museum honoring their unit’s history and culture in Hialeah Gardens. After years of fundraising and support from local citizens, the museum opened its doors on October 1, 1990 and has since been a source of pride for residents of this city. Today, nearly fifty years after activating our Florida National Guard unit, we continue to serve our community by commemorating and celebrating their service through events such as cultural programs, parade days and more!

Hialeah Gardens is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 653 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area and is located on the South Miami–Dade county line. Hialeah Gardens is home to the Major League Baseball (MLB)Miami Marlins and has been called "the city that never sleeps". The first settlers in what would become Hialeah Gardens were Spanish colonists who founded San Miguel de Allende on November 15, 1795. They named their settlement after the Dominican monastery where they had been going for baptisms. A few weeks later, on December 4th, 1795, Captain Antonio Perez of Spanish marines landed at San Miguel with a small party of men seeking refuge from Natural disasters which were ravaging Cuba at that time. On December 12th Perez received word that earthquake had hit Havana and soon thereafter he set out for Hialeah to assess the damage before returning to Cuba. He arrived back at San Miguel on January 3rd 1800 having covered more than 350 miles (560 km). At this time there was only one road leading into and out of town so arrivals must have converged along several different routes coming in or going out from San Miguel de Allende. In 1802 American settlers began arriving in large numbers following news of Seminole Wars fought between Spain and America over control of Florida's Indian reservations west of Tampa Bay. Many Americans thought Florida would be open to them because it was part of Mexico under French rule until 1803 when Napoleon Bonaparte ceded all but Louisiana to Britain but kept southwestern Florida as part of his empire including Tampa Bay which became known as St Petersburg/Clearwater County which included present day Hialeah Gardens within its boundaries as well as other towns such as Hollywood/Thurstonville/Pinellas Park/Leesburg) In1811 two brothers by the name of Pomponio started a store near today’s intersection of US 1st Street SW and NE MLK Boulevard called “The Post Office” – still standing today! This early business activity helped support early pioneers who built homes during this inaugural period in what would become known as “HIALEAH GARDENS” A post office was established at Hialeah by order #812 dated October 25 1861 . Mr John Waddell opened an account with First National Bank just east side MLK Blvd next door to The Post Office operated by Mrs Fannie Payne . mail service lasted through 1865 when it transferred to Ft Pierce station
Hialeah Gardens is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 20,722 at the 2010 census. It is the second most populous city in Miami-Dade County after Miami Beach and Home to the University of South Florida. The Hialeah Gardens area was first settled by Africans in the early 1800s as part of what is now Overtown. They were forced out of their homes by white settlers in 1892 when they rioted over a disputed election. In 1902, Hialeah's first school opened; it was called "The Indian School." In 1912, developers developed what is now Hialeah Gardens into a large planned community with shopping and dining options for both locals and tourists. In 1925, Daytona Beach became the official county seat of Miami-Dade County following its incorporation as a county on February 14th that year. On October 15th 1924, voters approved annexation of parts of Hialeah Gardens to make up for not having enough voting members on the City Commission to annex all of what are now Overtown (then known as `Miami Heights'). This made it possible for businesses located within the annexed boundaries to continue doing business without interruption while still complying with city ordinances which applied only to those living within the original limits of `Miami Heights'.
