Coffee has been enjoyed by humans for over 5000 years. Arabica beans were roasted and ground in Hialeah, Florida, which is home to the world’s first coffee plantation in 1872. The early settlers of Hialeah realized the potential of coffee because it was a valuable crop that could be grown in warm weather climates. They found that coffee beans grew well on small plots, so they began to grow larger estates in the late 1800s. The first coffee shops opened up in Hialeah during this time and people started to appreciate the high quality of their Coffee. In 1929, Dutchman Willem van Rooyen took control of one of the largest coffee plantations in Florida and started production of Java Coffee. This new variety of Coffee was different from all other types and it became very popular among consumers because it had a strong flavor and was smooth to drink. Java Coffee was also used as currency within Indonesia during this time and people would trade goods forJava Coffee. By 1969, Van Rooyen had sold all his assets within Indonesia and moved his operations to Brazil where he started producing some of the most popular coffees today- Brazilian Robusta, Guatemalan café de oro, Columbian Sumatra-Allobroma (formerly West Indian) etc.. In 2001, Whitfield Stroud bought Van Rooyen’s controlling interest in Java Coffee and continued production until 2006 when Whitfield Stroud decided not to continue with the business due to health concerns associated with Van Rooyen’s ownership stake. Since then there have been many attempts by others (both private individuals and companies) who own or operate large coffee plantations throughout Southeast Asia or South America either trying to replicate what Whitfield Stroud did or starting up their own brand/lineage utilizing various Indonesian roastings etcetera but none have really succeeded at taking Java Coffees global status like Whitfield Stroud did back when he owned everything...until now! Hialeah, Florida is a city in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 61,681 at the 2010 census.
