Holly Hill is a census-designated place in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 8,471 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. Holly Hill was founded in 1892 by two brothers and their families of ten immigrants from Ireland. The community grew rapidly during the 1920s as a result of its location near Uptown and Wynwood neighborhoods on Biscayne Bay. In 1932, when nearby Overtown lost its status as an integrated city due to racial discrimination, Holly Hill became the first African American town in Miami-Dade County. By 1970 it had shrunk to 1,500 residents; however, it continued to grow rapidly through annexation by neighboring Doral until 2000 when Doral incorporated as a separate municipality with its own government and local economy. The community's economic development has been based on its proximity to South Beach and international airports; industries have included real estate development (Holly Hill homes are often among the most expensive in the area), manufacturing (including pharmaceuticals production), restaurant and hotel construction, and light industrial employment including shipyards and banana plantations

It was established in 1885 by citizens of the area who desired to avoid being near Tampa's burgeoning city center. The Holly Hill Cemetery is the oldest cemetery in Hillsborough County and is still in use today.
