Army gift history in Holly Hill, Florida began with World War I and the establishment of the United States military. During World War I, America's mobilized forces were broken into two parts: the National Guard and the Regular Army. The National Guard was made up of volunteers from all across the United States. The Regular Army was organized into divisions and brigades under military command. The American Civil War began on April 12, 1861, when Confederate soldiers attacked a U.S. military installation at Fort Sumter in South Carolina. This event led to the outbreak of war and resulted in more than 620,000 soldiers dead, wounded or missing. After Abraham Lincoln was elected president on November 4th, 1861, he ordered General George Buell to lead an army south to secede from the Union and join Confederate forces. General Buell chose Holly Hill as his headquarters for this effort because it was a strategic location with easy access to food and ammunition supplies. When Confederate General Robert Easley marched into town on May 1st, 1862, he found that most residents had sided with their southern brethren against the United States government. Easley's men destroyed many businesses before they were able to enter town proper; however, they were unable to take any key buildings such as the courthouse or jail due to their lack of artillery support. A group of women formed a local militia known as "The Ladies' Defense Association" in order to protect themselves from Easley's troops while they awaited reinforcements from nearby Fortress Monroe. On July 9th 1863, Confederate General Jubal Early marched into Holly Hill without warning or combatant rights pursuant to orders received from Jefferson Davis; some say that Davis wanted Holly Hill taken because its strategic location would have permitted Confederate forces unrestricted access northward towards Jacksonville and Pensacola Bay crossings points vital for Navy operations off Georgia & Alabama waters! On October 3rd 1863 during an altercation between Early's men and local militiamen near what is now known as Second Street & Third Avenue ( subsequently renamed Taylor Street ),[1] Jubal Early killed six servicemen including one woman before being fatally shot by Sheriff John Witherspoon who arrived on scene just in time![2][3] It should be noted that early sources vary significantly on whether or not Jubal Early looted/destroyed civilian property during his rampage through town... initial reports seem likely based upon evidence alone!

The Army has been in the Holly Hill community for over 100 years. The first military unit to arrive in this area was the 9th Infantry Regiment, which arrived on October 25, 1882. The regiment served until 1898 when it was amalgamated with the 5th Infantry Regiment. In 1904, the regiment was redesignated as the 7th Infantry Regiment and served until 1915 when it was disbanded. From 1916 to 1924, it was redesignated as the 3rd Infantry Regiment and from 1925 to 1941 it was redesignated as the 1st Infantry Regiment. On November 15, 1942, all three infantry regiments were combined into a single brigade and became known as Brigade Headquarters Battalion (HHB) 1st Battalion (Red) Florida National Guard. This battalion remained in existence until September 1945 when it disbanded along with Brigade Headquarters Battalion (HHB) 2nd Battalion (Blue).

The U.S. Military Academy (USMA) has been awarding honorary degrees since 1876. On May 5th, 1865, President Abraham Lincoln presented General John A. Logan with an honorary degree for his leadership in leading Union troops during the American Civil War (1861-1865). This event was significant as it marked the first time that an individual had received an honorary degree from a United States military academy. On October 2nd, 1961, General Dwight D Eisenhower was presented with an honorary degree for his leadership in Air Force Operations during World War II (1939-1945). This event was significant as it marked the first time that a sitting head of state had been awarded an honorary degree from one of America's air forces academies. In 1954, Admiral Chester Nimitz was presented with an honorary doctorate from the Naval War College for his successful prosecution of World War II against Japan without battle casualties on Guam and Tinian Island: "This action gives credit not only to Admiral Nimitz himself but also to those who aided him in carrying out this great task." In 1989, Lieutenant Colonel Oliver North was given an Honorary Doctorate by West Point University in recognition for his role in helping Nixon win the Ulysses S Grant Presidential Election (1968). This event was significant as it marked the first time that West Point had ever honored someone with such distinction within its walls

Holly Hill is a small town located in Brevard County, Florida. The population was 7,782 at the 2010 census. Holly Hill is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Winter Park Metropolitan Statistical Area. It is part of the Florida Department of Corrections National Correctional Institution at Kissimmee. The area that now Holly Hill was part of Lakeland in Volusia County until 1836 when it became Brevard County and then again Volusia County until 1907 when it becameBrevard County again. In 1907, the land east of what is now Polk Street was annexed to Hillsborough County and Holly Hill got its present name from Mrs. Wm. Catey Holly who donated the land for a school and Methodist Episcopal Church in 1892). There were also 2 stores on Elm Street (now Polk Street) before annexation happened so there’s no evidence that either store ever had any commercial importance to Holly Hill residents prior to annexation. Hollyhill post office opened on October 10, 1898 with Aida Postmaster General as first female postmaster general in United States history (at this time all U.S.) After serving for only 4 months she resigned because she could not find someone to take over during Winters Season which coincided with her honeymoon period! She was replaced by Maud Postmaster General who served from 1899-1901; Lillie Postmaster General from 1901-1903; Ethel Postoffice from 1903-1907; Mrs.(Editha) Blount from 1907-1909; Ada Cline Whitehead from 1909-1911; Florence Fenton Peake after 1911 (she became first African American woman elected to serve as a BrevardCounty Commissioner). In 1916, Mayor John Pinchot closed down several businesses around town due to high taxes and lack of business activity due to World War I which caused many people who lived near or worked in Hollyhill to leave including most of the women mentioned earlier since they couldn't work because they were too busy caring for their husbands or kids back home during those tough times Thanks John! Not long after Mayor Pinchot's closure downing stopped although some businesses did reopen thanks mainly Toeney's grocery store on 3rd Avenue North which reopened after being closed by Justine Farrellbaugh owner/operator of Red Lobster who moved her seafood restaurant across 2 streets away across 1st Avenue North into an existing building that used to be called "The Belle" following much outcry among local citizens about how such a popular restaurant could close down during wartime! The fact that justines restaurant reopened shows you how things can change quickly in our beautiful little community! So much has changed since then especially considering that we have had more than one mayor since then! Since 2016 when Douglas Hixon assumed office as mayor he has made significant changes such as increasing funding for public schools while still keeping taxes low while trying to create more jobs within the community like creating a new park specifically for kids called "Hollywood Hills" adjacent to Hollywood High School and revamping downtown using his own vision rather than following politics as usual!
The Holly Hill area in Florida was settled by American Indian traders in the early 1800s. The first known European to visit the area was Captain James Cook, who visited in 1778. In 1838, a group of Seminole Indians led by Chief Osceola burned down a citrus plantation in what is now Holly Hill. A new orange orchard was established on the site in 1841, and one of the first fruits to be grown there was oranges. In 1845, a school was built on the property for African Americans working as teachers and farmhands. By 1870, much of Holly Hill had been destroyed by fire and natural disaster, but some remaining homes were rebuilt with stone walls and iron fencing. In 1909, an oil well was drilled near Holly Hill after extensive surveys were made of potential fields in that area. After initial drilling went well, plans were developed to use water from the well for farming purposes instead of extracting oil. However, due to high costs associated with drilling and building infrastructure needed for such a project, it wasn’t until 1917 that production began at nearby Halliburton Well No. 1. The first gasoline-powered car reached Florida during this time; it drove around town using horses pulled by donkeys filled with gravel destined for the wellhead
