It is a small town located in Pinellas County, Florida and it has been known for its artisan coffee since before the turn of the century. The first cafe in Holly Hill was founded by two Dutch immigrants, Johannes and Jacob van der Velde. They opened their shop on Main Street in 1907. The van der Velde Cafe was known for its fresh produce and delicious coffee. It was also one of the first cafes to offer under-the-counter sales. In 1912, another Dutch immigrant, Hendrik de Jong, opened his own shop on Third Street near US 1. He became known for his exceptional roasts and delicious coffee products. De Jong's Coffee Shop was one of the largest commercial locations in Holly Hill at that time. In 1937, Harry Knoppers set up his own business at 1106 Third Avenue. His store became well-known for its excellent roasted coffee beans and beautiful cupcakes made from local flourless chocolate cakes recipe developed by Harry Knoppers himself! Knoppers' Coffee Shop continued to operate until 1984 when it closed due to declining sales combined with other industry changes. However, this legacy lives on as a favorite spot for locals to enjoy a cup of Joe!

The first coffee shop in Holly Hill, Florida was the Coffee House on State Road 40. It was established in 1904 by John F. Smith and his brother-in-law, Harry H. Kelley. The structure served as a grocery store before becoming a coffee house. In 1907, the Coffee House became the first post office in Holly Hill when it opened. In 1916, the Grocery Outlet Store moved to its current location on State Road 400 and continued serving as a coffee shop until it closed in 1984. The former Post Office building is now used as an apartment complex.

Holly Hill was founded in 1868 by John and Sarah Hull. It was named for Captain Hollis Hicks, a Revolutionary War veteran who had been killed during the Battle of Saratoga. The Hulls were farmers with three children and one adult son working on their farm when they decided to settle in what is now Holly Hill. They started out planting cotton and other crops but soon began to grow sugarcane which produced profits that allowed them to build a house and buy land for their own use. In 1903, the Hulls donated land for a high school which became known as Holly Hill High School today. In 1949, Mrs. Priceey Bynum donated land adjacent to her home (now used as an agricultural research center) for the erection of a new junior college which would become University of Central Florida (UCF). Today UCF is one of America's leading universities with more than 36,000 students living on campus and more than 240 faculty members representing over fifty disciplines including five Nobel Prize winners! In 1960, Mrs Priceey Bynum again contributed land adjoining her home (now used as an agricultural research center) for the construction of another junior college which would become University of Central Florida (UCF). Today UCF is one of America's leading universities with more than 36,000 students living on campus and more than 240 faculty members representing over fifty disciplines including five Nobel Prize winners! In 1965-1966 Dr Davey Hixon dedicated his life to helpingbuild UCF into one of America's top private colleges by donating $25 million dollars from his estate! That same year UCF opened its doors to women male & female students! And in 1969-1970 Dr David Wulfshall dedicated his life to building undergraduate student housing near campus so that all undergraduates could live close together while still having access to quality education! This dedication has resulted in nearly $200 million being invested in university property since then! Today Holly Hill stands proud as an American city full of tradition and memories dating back centuries - witness it tomorrow when Clemson Tigers take on NC State Wolfpack football at Raymond James Stadium

The town had no school, but it did have a post office and saw several small businesses develop around it such as an grocery store and a mill. In 1916, when Florida became an State, Holly Hill became part of Tallahassee Municipality. After World War II, Holly Hill experienced some growth due to the influx of tourists from nearby Tallahassee. However, by 1970s its population had decreased significantly due to many changes taking place in the area including population loss from Tallahassee and other nearby towns. In recent years however there has been renewed interest in Holly Hill as it is considered one of the most unique small towns in Florida history.
