Holly Hill is a small town located in Putnam County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,865 at the 2000 census. Holly Hill is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The earliest record of Holly Hill comes from a map made by Captain John Atwater in 1824. Atwater named the community after his home country, Hollytree Plantation near Charlottesville, Virginia. In 1828, Colonel Robert E. Lee founded a plantation here and named it "Holly Hill". A post office called "Holly Tree" was established in 1836; it was discontinued in 1906. In 1841, General James K. Polk moved his Headquarters to Holly Tree and renamed it "Hollywood". In 1886 the name of Hollywood was changed again to "Holly Hill", when the first movie theater opened there. In 1925, Drury Lane Theatre opened in downtown Holly Hill as the first movie theater north of Miami Beach on State Road 507 (now US 41). It played movies until 1963 when it closed because of financial problems. In that year, Regal Cinemas (later AMC) built a new cinema complex on Deerfield Beach Boulevard just east of Interstate 495 which remains today one of Hollywood's most popular entertainment destinations for locals and visitors alike with its large screens and wide variety of programming choices including 2D and 3D movies as well as traditional theatrical shorts and features released theatrically only within Florida such as Let's Scare Jessica To Death (1925), The Wizard Of Oz ( 1939) and Oklahoma! (1939). In order to keep up with advances in technology caused by changes in film industry practices such as digital projection then available only through video tape transfer services this complex also included an IMAX theatre which used state-of-the-art projector technology allowing audiences to see feature length films up to 135 feet wide across two theaters while seated inside or outside on three balconies giving an amazing experience like no other before or since! The Regal Cinema Complex closed its doors for good on December 15th 2006 following more than 47 years of operation making it one of the longest running cinemas still operational in Central Florida!
