The Homestead Army Depot was founded in 1917 as the Department of War Supplies and Equipment of the Florida Infantry Regiment. A year later, it became the Army Depot at Homestead with a mission to provide uniformed citizens with military supplies and equipment. The depot grew steadily over time, becoming one of the largest army installations in the country by 1940. In 1944, it became part of the United States Forces Europe after World War II ended. The depot played an important role during Operation Overlord, which was conducted in 1945 to liberate France from Nazi occupation. It closed in 1970 but reopened as an Army store in 1992. Today, the depot is home to more than 1 million military items and offers a variety of services such as sales and rentals for businesses and civilians.

The Homestead, Florida Army Garrison was established on December 1, 1898. The unit served in the Spanish-American War and World War I. In 1924, the Homestead garrison became part of the Florida National Guard. In 1951, the National Guard detachment in Homestead was redesignated as the 3rd Infantry Brigade Combat Team (3IBCT). The brigade combat team was disbanded on September 15, 2006 but its lineage and history remain with the 3IBCT.
Homestead, Florida is a community located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 2,591 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg metropolitan area. The town was founded by pioneers in 1859 as an agricultural community on the then newly created Indian Territory under Seminole law. In 1861, it became a territorial capital and served as the seat of government for parts of Florida until1868 when Tallahassee became the state capital. The original homesteads were located on east-west University Road northeast of downtown now known as SW Second Street which served as its main commercial artery until 1926 when city limits were put around it and most businesses relocated to Downtown Tampa. Most residents are descendants of pioneer families that arrived from Kentucky, Tennessee, Ohio and other surrounding states in the late 1800s and early 1900s during what is known as "The Great Migration." Many arrive with nothing more than their cars or trailers and start fresh in what is often called America's "Promised Land". Homestead has been home to many local businesses including banks (Chase Bank & Trust), churches (First Baptist Church), schools (Lincoln Elementary School - now Stroud High School) and health care facilities such as Lees Memorial Hospital/Cleveland Clinic / HealthSouth/AARP since its incorporation in 1907. Today, Homestead continues to be a vibrant community with a strong sense of identity rooted in tradition and history

Today, Homestead is an important cultural center for Florida's rural population. It houses many historical artifacts from throughout its history, including a barn dating back to 1832 that was added to the National Register of Historic Places in 1987. There also is a museum housed within the town hall which tells the story of life at Homestead from its earliest days until today.
In 1910, Homestead was founded by brothers John and George Atwater. The Atwaters were pioneers in the citrus industry and their farmstead soon became one of the most successful fruit farms in Florida. In 1922, the Atwaters sold their land to the City of Miami for development into a city. The name Homestead was changed to Miami Beach in 1926. In 1971, it was annexed into the city of Miami Beach.
