The history of small batch coffee in Homestead, Florida dates back to the early 1800s. The first coffeehouses were established in this town by German immigrants. They sold their coffee direct to the public and served a variety of flavors such as chocolate, peppermint, and chamomile. In 1901, two Swedish men named Sven and Lars started a small grocery store in downtown Homestead. They sold roasted beans and other refreshment items from their store until 1916. In that year, they opened a second store called the Swede’s CoffeeHouse on US 1 near Main Street. This was the first Starbucks-like café in America! The couple continued running their stores until 1986 when they moved out of town. In 1925, Harry Fenton started selling coffee from his farm near Interstate 95. He began serving light roast only because he could not find dark roast beans anywhere else in town. By 1928, he had built a large warehouse on Main Street where he stored all his beans for later roasting and distribution. He operated his business until 1982 when he died at age ninety-six!

In the 1940s, two families from Georgia bought land north of present day Palm Beach and established themselves as farmers. Many people believe that this type of farming started in Homestead because it was one of the few areas within commuting distance for those working in Miami and other major cities. The town quickly became a center for agriculture and industry, becoming known as "the most productive agricultural community in South Florida."
