The U.S. Army Garrison Jacksonville Beach began in 1898 as a U.S. military post near the mouth of the St Johns River. The post was moved to its current location on the bluff overlooking the beach in 1924, and it has been an garrison ever since. In 1946, Jacksonville Beach became part of Florida and the post was merged with Fort Walton Beach Naval Air Station to form Jacksonville-Fort Walton Beach Naval Air Station. In 1958, both posts were again united when Jacksonville-Fort Walton Beach Naval Air Station was turned over to the Navy and renamed Jacksonville Naval Air Base.
Jacksonville Beach, Florida is a small town located on the Jacksonville Peninsula in Duval County, Florida. The population was 41,569 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville-St. Johns Metropolitan Statistical Area. The city of Jacksonville was founded in 1836 by Captain James Culp and his brother, Commodore John Culp Jr., as a trading post on the mouth of the St. Johns River between present-day Jacksonville and Fort Myers. In 1857, Jacksonville became a county seat with territorial status and was named for General Andrew Jackson in honor of his victory over Mexico at Buena Vista Field near modern day Tampa Bay. On July 4th, 1892, Jacksonville became an incorporated city under State law when all but 1/2 of Duval County chose to become one unit pursuant to an act by Governor Hernando de Soto that year following annexation of land east of Tampa Bay from Hillsborough County. In 1978, it merged with neighboring Stonington to form one municipality which remains today as Jacksonville Beach Municipality

Jacksonville Beach was founded in 1898 by Willis Judd, an American sailor. The city's first store was a grocery and general merchandise business located on the junction of East Bay Boulevard and Jacksonville Beach Boulevard.
