Jacksonville Beach is a city in Duval County, Florida, United States. The population was 61,651 at the 2010 census. Jacksonville Beach is part of the Jacksonville–Boca Raton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The history of Jacksonville Beach can be traced back to 1875 when brothers Augustus and George Sanford built a small resort on the now-defunct Blackwater River near present-day Fourth Street and South Palm Boulevard. The Sanford Brothers developed what is now known as Jacksonville Beach into a resort town that drew vacationers from all over Florida for decades. In 1912, the first marina was built on what is now Dooley Bayou. In 1941, the city annexed adjacent land to form its current boundaries. In 1967, Jacksonville Beach became one of only two US cities to host the world's largest Freedom Day parade with more than 200 floats and 4 million spectators lining State Road 805 between First Avenue and Seventh Avenue North. That year also marked the beginning of an era of redevelopment that has seen numerous new businesses opening up in downtown Jacksonville Beach since then – some still in operation today! Jacksonville Beach is a city located in Duval County, Florida on the Gulf of Mexico. The population was 92,812 at the 2010 census. Jacksonville Beach is home to Jacksonville University and Jacksonville Regional Medical Center as well as numerous businesses and restaurants. It has a history dating back to 1855 when Captain Andrew Stevenson founded a small port town called "St. Augustine." In 1865, Jacksonville Beach became an incorporated village under the name of "Jacksonville". On May 15, 1926,Captain John Fitch sailed his schooner USS Yale through Jacksonville Bay and named it after Jacksonville Beach The area that now makes up Jacksonville Beach was first inhabited by Achenegra Indians who lived along the bayou between St. Johns Parish to the north and Duval County to the south before being displaced by European settlers in the late eighteenth century. By 1811, Englishman James Watts had landed on nearby Saint Marks Island with three ships and began trading with local tribes including the Achenegra. When Spanish troops arrived in 1795 during War of Jenkins' Ear they discovered this trade and destroyed all but one of Watts's vessels before leaving for Cuba. In 1830 Spanish explorer Alonso de Arellano explored what is now St Johns Parish while exploring Browns Bayous southwest of Fort Moseley - he named it San Miguel de la Plata Baywardi (Spanish for "Headland"). This naming convention continued until 1835 when Naval officer Pedro Menéndez y Prado renamed part of St Johns parish San Fernando de la Laguna which led to most southernFlavers using this name throughout much of their explorations east into our present day state In 1845 two brothers - Isaac Seawright & John Graves - opened a ferry service from Mobile based on their profits from whaling off Pensacola Harbor linking downtown Mobile with Key West across Nassau Sound.
