Jacksonville Beach, Florida is a city located on the North Atlantic coast of Florida. The population was 153,586 at the 2010 census. The town was named for John Fenton, 6th Viscount Stroud (1712-1785), one of Britain's most able commanders during its American Revolutionary War effort. After Fenton's death, his son George Washington appointed him 3rd Baron Stroud (1800-1854) to manage Britisher interests along the east coast of America; this led to Jacksonville becoming an important center for trade with both Canada and Mexico during the early days of US independence! During World War II, Jacksonville Beach became an important staging ground for Allied forces fighting in Naples and other Mediterranean theaters. The USS Constitution battlecruiser was moored here before her return home concluding her 51st naval battle ever when she fought off German U-boats off Cape Canaveral on July 4, 1941 Shelled by Japanese shells as she sailed into port for repairs following a collision with another ship two weeks earlier off Key West just prior to her arrival – it was onlythe fourth time any US battleship had been hit by air attack while underway!
