Jupiter, Florida is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 25,542 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Miami metropolitan area. The city of Jupiter was founded by Isidore Post and his family on November 15, 1925 as Post's Mills. The name derived from Iuka Falls, a small body of water located about northwest of Jupiter and east of Post's Mills. In 1928, Post sold the mill to J.H. Walton and Wm. Ewing for $2,000 cash with 10% interest payable each year until paid in full. Walton developed the land into what is now known as Jupiter Landing which became an agricultural center during World War II due to its proximity to naval ammunition plants and then Wernher von Braun's American Rocket Laboratory; however, development stopped after the war ended and most of the landed acreage remained undeveloped until 1974 when developers leased it back to Walton for use as an airport he called "Jupiter Landing Airport". In 1974–1975, post office investors organized a group that purchased 1/4 mile (0.6 km) of runway at Jacksonville International Airport (JAX), built a hangar there and christened it "John F Kennedy International Airport", naming one Ulysses S Grant Carden US Senator from Illinois who had been assassinated four years earlier while serving in Washington D.C., after John F Kennedy and honoring him by having one side of the airport renamed JFK-Langley Field in honorof his late father President John F Kennedy - making it America's first international airport with exclusively United States passenger services under one name (the other being London Heathrow). The current terminal building was completed in 1982 adjacent to Terminal 3A which served primarily air cargo handled by Pan American Airways until their acquisition by Aerolineas Mexicanas (Aeromexico) in 1984; however groundbreaking took place on Terminal 2 which served both airlines through 1990 before being combined with Terminal 3A becoming permanently operational as Aeromexico AirlinesTerminal 3B upon Aileron Air Service deregulation in 1991 increased competition between Airmen operational at two terminals against single airline service at terminals resultingin reduced demand for ground transportation away from these two airports so that all three terminals were used concurrently until rerouted along Concourse E toward MIA when Aileron discontinued operations effective December 1st 1999 creating concourse width restrictions necessitating separate facilities within Terminals 3A & 3B throughout this period spurring continued redevelopment including new retail & hotel developments along runways 6b/9a providing direct access to downtown Miami via Wynwood Avenue
