Since World War II there have been many major changes take place within the city limits including: 1) After years of planning and construction by civic leaders led by Mayor Harry Burtis things started coming together with the opening of Interstate 95 in 1985 which made access to centralMiami much easier; 2) A shopping mall called Millenia opened adjacent to I-95; 3) An airport expansion completed in 1997 allowed for more domestic flights into MIA while still accommodating international arrivals; 4) Many homes were built during this time that are now considered landmarks such as Pinellas Park Elementary School (now known as Miracle Mile Elementary), Channelview Drive (now known as State Road 875), etc.; 5) As current trends continue development will likely increase once again including a new riverfront park being developed on Wofford Avenue called Riverwalk which will include restaurants and other retailers

Kissimmee, Florida is a city located in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,597 at the 2010 census. It is the county seat of Miami-Dade County and part of the Miami metropolitan area. In 1997, it became the first municipality in Greater Miami to be incorporated as an unincorporated community.[1] The name derived from Indian Creek (now Kissimmee Creek) that flows through the city. The first European settlers in what would become Kissimmee were French colonists who founded Fort Stroud on a bluff overlooking Indian creek in 1663. A year later, English colonists arrived and built Fort Brooke on land acquired from Alonso De la Vega for £500. Spanish explorer Pedro Menéndez de Avilés named this location "Kissimmee" after his homeland of Cuba. Spanish traders established a village here known as "Cristobalcóvar" in 1695 and called it "Xárabeza".[2] Until 1790, Kissimmee was part of Ybor City which was ruled by Governor Manuel de Ayala y Caballero. When Ybor City was destroyed by a fire during Hurricane Andrew in 1992, its residents moved to Kissimmee into what is now known as District 3 of Miami-Dade County.[3][4][5] On December 10th 1903 Mayor John Pfleger declared all bridges across Indian Creek closed due to ice accumulation because ice jams had formed on both creeks three days earlier.[6] This event marked the beginning of winter prohibition enforcement in South Florida which continued until 1926 when state law changed to allow merchants to sell alcoholic beverages through licensed stores.[7][8][9] During Prohibition there were no banks or other financial institutions within reach for most people so smuggling became an important aspect of local economy. In 1933 when President Franklin D Roosevelt convened Congress's Morrill Land Grant Conference at Sun Valley Resort near Naples he wanted to provide agricultural land for black farmers but found resistance from white landowners who argued that lands should only be given away to those who could afford them. As a result Roosevelt directed Secretary of Agriculture Henry Wallace to study how best to distribute these lands with recommendations that over 60% go towards farms owned by white farmers while less than 2% went towards rural black households[10]. After much deliberation USDA approved the transfer of 1 million acres (400 square miles) northward including what are now Polk County and parts ofMiami-Dade and Broward Counties including Kissimmee Township
