From 1959 to 1961, the National Guard was activated for a three-year deployment to Vietnam as part of Operation Neptune’s Spear. After that deployment it wasactivated only for training purposes until 1971 when it became permanently stationed at Fort Riley in Kansas. Since its inception, the National Guard has been called up for various operations including Desert Storm in 1991 and Operation Restore Hope in 2004; both deployments were successful and resulted in minimal casualties among members of the guard forces. In recent years there have been several attempts to create legislation that would allow members of the military reserves (National Guardsmen and Marines) to become holders of U.S., state or local government jobs once they complete their service obligation within those respective jurisdictions/countries/states (e.g., becoming law enforcement officers). Kissimmee, Florida is a town located in Polk County, Florida. It was founded in 1835 by Captain John C. Walton and his wife Sarah. The original name of the town was "Walton's Bluff." The name was changed to Kissimmee in 1890 because the bluffs were thought to be kissable (i.e., if you kissed them, it would make you sick). In 1907, Kissimmee became a city and has had several changes over the years including becoming a county seat in 1912 and then again as a municipality in 1959. The immediate area around Kissimmee includes some of the most beautiful citrus orchards in the country with about 2,500 acres (1,000 hectares). The crops that are grown here include oranges, apples, grapefruit, tangerines and other fruit trees. There is also significant amounts of palm oil production. However, much of this economic activity takes place outside of town limits – specifically along US-1 and I-4 corridors near Orlando airport which provide easy access to these markets for buyers and sellers alike. Kissimmee also has an interesting history dating back to 1835 when Captain John C. Walton founded what is now known as Walton's Bluff on present day US-1 south of downtown Kissimmee. At first he only built himself a cabin but soon started trading with Indians who lived on nearby Indianola island which he named after his wife Sarah – something that still happens today when someone wants to buy goods from another tribe near Indianola Island- typically they will call out "Mrs."
In 1846, Kissimmee was founded as a small Indian settlement on the banks of the St. Johns River by Seminole Indians. The town grew rapidly and in 1853 it became a county seat. The area now known as Kissimmee was first settled by white men in the 1830s, when they traveled down the river to trade with the Seminoles. In 1846, General John C. Fremont arrived in Florida to explore what could be discovered north of Tampa Bay and he named this new spot "Kissimmee" after his father's home near Kingston, England. The town quickly gained notoriety for its fashionable nightlife and its many scandalous stories of love affairs and corruption. By 1860, Kissimmee had more than 4,000 residents and it was still growing at an alarming rate. The rapid growth led to some controversies, such as accusations that developers were using town funds to build luxurious homes for themselves while neglecting the needs of their citizens. This type ofcorruption is often referred to as "the golden age of Florida." In 1865, Hurricane Andrew destroyed most of Kissimmee's buildings including many churches and schools; however, the people were able to rebuild quickly thanks to help from abroad. In 1967-1968, Tropical Storm Fay caused extensive damage to Kissimmee - much like Andrew had done before - but again people were able to rebuild quickly thanks in part to donations from all over America. Overall, Kissimmee has experienced some significant destruction over time - but it has always been able To recover relatively quickly!
