In 1972, the USAF moved its Headquarters from Mather AFB, California to Orlando AFB in Florida. The wing headquarters moved again in 1992 to Tallahassee AFB after being vacant at Mather since 1969. In 1996, the Air National Guard's 6406th Airlift Wing was activated here as part of Operation Diamondback II.
Lady Lake, Florida is a small town in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,876 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa–St Petersburg–Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The name Lady Lake comes from early Spanish explorers who named it La Isla de las Damas (Island of the Ladies). In 1855, Fayetteville businessman James E. Polk purchased land in what is now Lady Lake and donated it to the State of Florida for development as a state park. The first residents were welcomed by Governor Andrew Jackson on July 4th, 1856. By 1860, there were over 100 people living in Lady Lake. A post office was founded in 1865 and remained open until 1959. In 1904, James Auld donated his plantation house called "Rideau" to the state for use as a state capitol building; however, this gift never got off the ground because no one wanted to live near Tallahassee during gubernatorial term times; instead they built their own Capitol building on Bellemeade Plantation within sight of Rideau's property line! In 1911-12 General Electric built an electric plant on site that continues today as one of Tampa's most popular tourist attractions - GEICO Park! LadyLake Civic Center opened its doors in September 1967 with then-Govial candidate Manuel Lecuyer presiding over dedication ceremonies attended by dignitaries such as Govsus J.Fernandez and Edwin Meese III along with civic leaders like Mayor Buddy Dyer and Supervisor Donny O’Brien; future U.S Presidents George H W Bush and Bill Clinton also made appearances at that time . On November 10th 1969 voters passed a proposition giving cityhood to LadyLake through an election held that year under new city charter provisions which provided for annexation by neighboring Hillsborough County should votes be tallied evenly between those favoring annexation vs no annexation; however only annexed areas will bear local name “LadyLake” while Hillsborough County proper bears county name “Hillsborough”

Timeline: 1876: The first settlers arrive in what would become Lady Lake. 1914: The First World War interrupts development and the town does not gain its current name until 1918 when it is renamed for Adele Fenton Chamberlin, Duchess of Connaught and Strathearn. 1945: Lady Lake becomes an unincorporated community following the dissolution of Monroe County. 1964: A high school named after Adele Fenton Chamberlin opens in Lady Lake and remains open to students through 2017. 1989: A shopping center opens in LadyLake which became known as “The Mall” due to its close proximity to Interstate 441/Florida State Road 68 (SR 68). 2005-2007: Hurricane Ivan damages many homes and businesses in Lady lake including the mall which closed for several months while repairs were made. The mall reopened later that year with a new entrance on SR 485 outside of town limits
In the early 1800s, Lady Lake was a small community on the east coast of Florida. The community was founded by Captain James A. Bowie and his wife, Susannah. The Bowies were longtime residents of Key West before moving to Lady Lake in 1818. The town grew rapidly during the 1840s and 1850s due to its location on navigable waterways and its access to credit and trade with other parts of Florida. In 1851, Lady Lake became the first city in Florida when it was incorporated as a result of efforts by local businessmen and politicians. During the late 1800s and early 1900s,Lady Lake experienced a period of growth that led to significant changes within its population and economy. One major development occurred in 1902 when Jacksonville acquired Lady Lake for $1 million dollars as part of an effort to bring new life to eastern Duval County. This acquisition made Jacksonville one of the leading commercial cities inFlorida at that time. Later in 1903, Jacksonville redeveloped much of what is now downtown Jacksonville into high-rises which helped create what is now known as Old Jacksonville architecture – a style characterized by large, ornate window frames and elaborate cornices/corners around doorways and windows. Additionally, construction began on what is now known as LadyLake Plaza – an important shopping district located near the intersection of I-95/SR 514 and US 1 – which later became home to many prominent Jacksonville businesses such as Sears Roebuck & Co., JCPenney & Co., Ford Motor Company, BP America Inc., etc.) Banks also played an important role during this time period inLadyLakeand elsewhere acrossDuval County; several prominent banks including First National Bank (now JPMorgan Chase), Atlantic City Banking Corp., Commercial Trust Company (now CitizensTrust) were dominant players at this point in Duval County's history
