Lady Lake is a town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,622 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando metropolitan area. The name honors Lady Frances Hodgson Wright and her husband, Rear Admiral Sir Harry Hogg Wright KCB (1868-1946). The town was platted in 1892 by Captain George Crayton. He donated land to the town and named it after Lady Frances Hodgson Wright who had given him a gift of land in 1885. The first post office was established in 1893, and the first store was built on Main Street in 1895. A school was started in 1907 but closed three years later due to lack of students. In 1912, Mrs. Gertrude Ladd bought the school from Mrs. Tippetts and continued to operate it until 1957 when it became known as Lady Lake School District #2A which moved to its current location on US Highway 27 about two miles south of Lady Lake on State Road 515W In 1915, Rear Admiral Harry Hogg Wright KCB donated land northeast of Lady Lake for a new airfield which would become known as Naval Air Station "Hogwarts" or NAS "Lake Wales". This station served as an operational base for American naval aviation during World War II; more than 3,500 pilots were trained here before its closure in 1945 Lady Lake's growth during this time can be seen through the development of retail outlets such as JCPenney and Sears Roebuck; construction of homes began shortly after World War II ended; and most importantly through the establishment of agricultural production which has played a major role in local economy ever since Due to its proximity to Orlando International Airport and other major city attractions,[1] NAS "Hogwarts" saw significant use during both world wars with thousands of soldiers being stationed here including many who formed aircraft factories such as Convair Aviation Company[2][3] which manufactured bombers for USS Enterprise (CVN-65) during World War II Today Naval Air Station "Hogwarts" remains one of Americas largest active naval airfields with over 1,000 acres (400 hectares) used for all sorts of aircraft operations from helicopters to jets . With more than 200 acres (80 hectares) still undeveloped withinNAS Hogwartss boundaries there are plans underway by Naval Air Systems Command(NAVAIRSC)to build up this parcel into an airport capable exclusivelyof hosting commercial passenger flights beginning withinthe next few years

Lady Lake is a town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,660 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Hollywood metropolitan area. Lady Lake was founded in 1892 by J.D. Payne and his wife, Emma Belle Payne to provide an agricultural community for their 250-acre (120 ha) parcel of land east of State Road 875 between the Kissimmee River and Heron Lake[1]. The Payne family later donated additional land to make up the current town site.[2][3] Lady Lake began as a small farming community with only a few farms and homes. By 1910 it had become a city with a full complement of businesses and over fifty residents. In 1912, after annexing villages like Winter Garden and Delray Beach,[4] Lady Lake became one of thirteen municipalities consolidated into Orlando on February 14, 1912 under the name "Orlando Municipal Borough". The annexation made LadyLake one of two cities in Brevard County (the other being Daytona Beach) that were not originally incorporated as towns but became municipal boroughs within urban boundaries; the other was Merritt Island which became an unincorporated island within Orlando municipality on December 13, 1922[5]. The growth of downtown Orlando led to heavy development around University Avenue between Exposition Boulevard and Orange Blossom Trail in downtown Orleanda Township beginning in 1915 when developer Waddell Leach built what is now known as "Leach's Tower" – first letter only – at 331 University Ave., soon followed by many others along University Ave throughout Downtown Orleanda Township including Leach's Garage [6], Leach's Warehouse [7], Leach's Department Store [8], & finally Waddell Leach Development Company Limited Building #1 & #2 at 233 Cumberland St., today known as UCB Center[9]. In addition to developing downtown Orleanda Township, developers also developed northside suburbs such as Plantation Lakes Estates near Altamonte Springs Resort,[10] Apple Valley Circle outside Cocoa Beach,[11] Meadowbrook Village northeast of Merritt Island,[12],[13],[14],[15],[16] Indian Rocks Manor southwest of Oviedo,[17] Crystal Cove Highlands southeast of Sanford[18],[19]), Willow Glen Highlands northwest of Sanford[20])& Parrish Hills southwest off US 27 just west Of Sanford
