Lady Lake is a small town located in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,812 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando-Kissimmee-Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in Lady Lake was James Cook who landed there in 1793 and named it after his friend and mentor Admiral Sir John Hawkins. Lake Kissimmee was created by carving out part of the now submerged complex known as Wahoo Hills. In 1868, Lady Lake became one of five townships within Polk County when it was organized from parts of Orange Park and Sanford. As a result of its location on Orlando's trade corridor, Lady Lake grew rapidly during the 19th century becoming one of the most developed areas in southwestern Florida. A post office called Lady Lake was established in 1872, but no mail went to it until 1888 when an east–west road connecting Orlando with Tampa began service. In 1906, Harry Aiken bought land near what is now Lady Lake for $1 million and founded Aiken Air Force Base which has grown into one of South Florida's largest employers

Lady Lake, Florida is a small town located in Monroe County, Florida. It was founded in 1892 by Judge John P. Cooker and his wife, Anna M. Cooker. The community was named after Lady Lake, a large body of water located to the east of the town. At its peak, the population of LadyLake was approximately 1,500 people. By 1966, the population had decreased to fewer than 200 people. The first residents of LadyLake were local farmers who grew crops and raised livestock on their farmssteads around Lady Lake Creek and nearby upland areas. In 1892, Judge John P. Cooker donated land to build a community on which he and his wife would live and operate a flour mill and other businesses until their death in 1928). The name "LadyLake" reflected both theJudge's philanthropy as well as his feelings about being called "the lady of all lakes". Initially built around two square miles (5 km²), the growth of LadyLake led to an expansion that included additional square miles (10 km²) in 1925; additions followed until 1958 when a new dam impounded Lake Monroe for irrigation purposes caused total inundation of much of what is now LadyLake Township including much valuable agricultural land having been lost forever in this time period with little effort on behalf of those affected by the inundation In contrast to many other Utopian communities established during this era such as Waterford or Gadsden Beach Village near Jacksonville Beach where more recent development has replaced any pre-existing housing stock inhabitants continue today largely unchanged since before World War II There remains today only some remnant farm buildings scattered around unexcavated portions of rural township while most commercial activity takes place within walking distance either ashore or inland along highway 12/Eustis Boulevard less than one mile from downtown core
Lady Lake was founded in 1873 by Captain William H. Dawes and his wife, Anna. The first post office was established at Lady Lake in 1876. In 1910, the name of the settlement changed to Fort Myers after a town in Naples, Florida was destroyed by a hurricane. The fortifications around the community were abandoned in 1917, but were reactivated as part of Camp David during the Nixon administration. In 1980, Fort Myers became an unincorporated community within Lee County using that name. It is now a census-designated place (CDP) with a population of 8,005 people as of 2016.
