Neighboring communities are Fort Myers and Clearwater. The town of Lady Lake was founded in 1892 by J.P. House and his family as a resting place for cattle dealers travelling through Seminole County on their way to market in Tampa Bay. When the railroad came through, the local farmers got rich from selling goods produced in Lady Lake and Fort Myers to commuters traveling between Tampa and Orlando. Today, Lady Lake remains an agricultural village with a small population of single-family homes and several businesses that produce food products such as apples, hams, cheese, eggs, milk and yogurt. The first post office opened in 1893; it was discontinued in 1902 because of lack of customers! The current post office building was built in 1924; it is still used today as the public library! In 1907 Mrs Hulbert donated land to build a home for teachers within the limits of what would later become Lady Lake Elementary School; that school now serves students from elementary through high school! In 1923 Mrs Kapp donated land to build Village Hall which became our first municipal building! In 1934 Mr Robert Sperry donated money towards renovating our old Masonic Temple into a new jail/court complex that still stands today! And finally we’re blessed each year with one of the biggest events each year when thePolk County Sheriff’s Annual Christmas Party takes place at Village Hall (pictured)! LadyLake has always been an important community due to its location - close enough to both Tampa and Orlando so people could enjoy good shopping experiences but also far enough away so there wasn’t pressure to maintain high levels of traffic or development within town boundaries... it’s these little things that make LadyLake unique!

Lady Lake is a town in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 3,724 at the 2000 census. It is the smallest town in Palm Beach County. The first settlement within present-day Lady Lake was made by Captain John W. Dunlap and his family in 1868 on their farm known as "Dunlap's Prairie". The original post office was called "Mantua" until 1892 when it changed to "Lake Worth". In 1912, the name of the post office was changed again to "Lady Lake", after American author and explorer Amelia Earhart became stranded on her way from Ireland to Alaska during a flight over that country. Lake Worth had been founded by Major General James Swayne in 1837 as a military outpost on the western bank of Jupiter Creek (now Manatee Bay) opposite Fort Brooke. After Colonel Augustus Pritchard built Fort Brooke on higher ground in 1840, Swayne abandoned his outpost and moved its garrison to Lady Lake. On November 12, 1886, Commodore John A Cox anchored his brigantine USS Constitution off shore for supplies at Lady Lake before departing for Key West with Spanish forces fighting against Rivera's Cuba Expedition; he left behind three women and 14 children who were taken captive by Rivera's forces upon his return to Cuba. Upon Commodore Cox's return to Tampa Bay on November 17th he released all but four of his captives including two mothers and five daughters; one woman died as a result of her captivity In 1916 Captain Elisha Jelks of SS America discovered wine stored inside an old Indian mound near Lady lake while exploring nearby Jupiter creek bottom during normal summer season; this discovery led eventually to establishment of winery industry around world following prohibition which ended commercial production around world until 1976 On May 5th 1897 Governor Manuel Lighthouse Board authorized erection of first lighthouse at point where now US Hwy 1 intersects Cypress Rd.; Lt Col George B Ridgway commanding USHwy 1 Brigade erected first light & keep watch night 5/6 nights 8 days (later moved ashore) due primarily to concerns about unlawful access along Cypress road by bandits & blacks led by white trader Cushman ; however this early lighthouse never operated due inability or unwillingness of local authorities either to maintain proper lookout or erect necessary fencing . However second light still operates today as marker off Hwy 1 just south side OF First Light After moving from Dunlap Prairie eastward through acquisition of land from other families between 1868-1893 making it part Of what is now Palm Beach County - At about 1913 when county seat relocated From Juno Lakes area back To Lady lake - There development started along Uptown Main Street which ran northeasterly past Old Plantation Rd then turned east almost unto Interstate 95 heading into newly developed downtown area now known as NW Side Of Ihrig Park park located adjacent To lady lake Blvd
