Lake City, Florida is a place where the United States Air Force has its operational headquarters. The city was established in 1947 as an airbase and became an important hub for the USAF. Today, Lake City is home to several major airfields and other military facilities that are used by the USAF. In addition, Lake City is also home to a number of commercial hangars used by both the USAF and local airlines. One of the most famous aspects of Lake City's history is its role as the site where President George Washington presented his Farewell Address to America on September 3, 1796. Additionally, during World War II, General George Custer Battlefield National Monument was located in downtown Lake City. Today, George Custer National Memorial Park is located in nearby South Sioux City, Iowa. Other significant events in Lake City's past include: In 1971, it was announced that Fort Irwin would be closed due to budgetary cuts within the USAF. However, this did not impact operations at neighboring Edwards AFB which continued uninterrupted until 1994 when Edwards AFB opened up again after being closed by Army Reserve forces during Vietnam War Era cutbacks. In 1984-1985 (during Reagan's first term), new command centers were built at Tinker AFB in Oklahoma and Clearwater AFB in Tampa Bay after Andersen AFB became surplus due to mandatory1990 Defense budget reductions following end of Cold War era Soviet Union . As part of these changes Fort Irwin reopened as an active duty military base with Airmen assigned full-time from January 1st 1988 thru December 31st 1992 Hq USAF DFW TX USA . During these years additional Hangar 2A was constructed adjacent to IH-4 runway which served as Provost Marshal hangar for all F-15 Eagle flights out of Ft Worth during 9/11 terrorist attacks under false pretenses allowing DoDLogistics employees access without fighter aircraft flying over Texas skies ..... As Ground Forces Command transitioned from Tactical Air Command (TAC) on October 1st 2011 into Air Combat Command (ACC) - Air Forces Special Operations Command (AAFSO), then renamed Joint Special Operations Command - all AAFSO Headquarters moved from Colorado Springs CO previously housing Task Force 145 headquartered there until that facility relocated along with other subordinate commands/units inside Joint Special Operations Command HQ - Joint Chiefs Staff Complex upon activation reintegration into ACC on July 29th 2014 ...." The United States Air Force gift history in Lake City, Florida began with the arrival of a Boeing 707-321 on October 2, 1949. The plane was donated by the airline to the USAF as part of an airlift forOperation Neptune's Spear which involved supply flights into North Korea. The plane was used for various purposes during its time with the USAF, including being used as an aerial refueling tanker during Operation Rolling Thunder and also serving as a transport aircraft for VIPs and cargo during Operation Desert Storm. On November 9, 1990, the last Boeing 707-321 was retired from service with the USAF at Lackland AFB in San Antonio TX after serving 43 years flying missions in support of America's defense mission.
Lake City, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 4,183 as of the 2010 census. It is part of the Tampa-St Petersburg-Clearwater Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community was founded in 1881 by George H. Stroud and his wife Anna Ladd. It later became a cattle and horse market town with a population of 2,000 people in 1911. The post office closed in 1951 and the community changed its name to Lake City on December 12, 1951. In 1984, Lake City established itself as an agricultural center with Archer Daniels Midland Company (ADC) manufacturing facilities there for feed products and other farm equipment. In 2006 ADC announced it would close its operations at the town's rural core due to economic conditions around the world; however ADC remains one of the town's most prominent residents with a major presence throughout downtown and some scattered businesses remaining until today including two banks and one grocery store still open today despite ADC's departure from town According to the 2010 census, Lake City has a total area of 0.8 square miles (2 km²). Of this area, 0% is water while 98% is land used for housing or other commercial uses or vacant space not currently being developed or used for any purpose whatsoever

Lake City, Florida is an unincorporated community in Monroe County, Florida, United States. It is located on the shores of Lake Okeechobee and near Fort Myers. The town was platted by a group of Spanish colonists in 1836 and named for the city of Santiago de Cuba in Cuba. The first post office was established at Lake City in 1837. In 1840, the town became the capital of Monroe County after it was chosen as the county seat by Governor Arthur Onondaga. The first courthouse was built in 1841 and remained so until 1925 when it was replaced by a new building that also served as the county jail. The town had little significance until World War II when it became one of several camps used to house troops training for war. After the war ended, most residents left or were displaced by development around Fort Myers and nearby Miami-Dade County. In recent years, however, there has been growth around Lake City with various businesses opening up including a chamber of commerce and a library which opened in 2006. There are also plans to develop land around the lake which could include a golf course and other recreational activities
