The United States Army was founded in 1775 and has served our country since then. The modern American Army is composed of more than 350,000 soldiers and Marines, providing critical military support to U.S. allies around the world. In Lake City, Florida, the US Army Garrison #1 is located on Fort Brooke Road. The fort was built in 1907 as part of a larger development named for General James K. Polk, who had been elected president that year and was considered a presidential “wildcard” because he lacked any military experience or political clout. The Polk Development included seven hotels, 128 apartment buildings and 2 dozen stores before it all went up in flames in 1920 due to an arsonist’s spree. Fort Brooke Rd today serves as the primary access road to the garrison complex which includes four barracks housing some 1,500 soldiers and marines along with their families (veterans are not allowed inside). Additionally, there are several smaller buildings used by the troops for administrative purposes such as mess halls and ammunition magazines. There also exists a small parade ground adjacent to the main barracks where events such as drumettes and rifle drill are held each year on Memorial Day weekend. In addition to its role as an important tourist destination for locals and visitors alike, Fort Brooke Rd also provides excellent views of downtown Lake City from many of its units!

Lake City, Florida is a city in Seminole County, Florida, United States. The population was 382 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Boca Raton metropolitan area. The city is home to the Lake City Music Hall and various other cultural attractions. The first Europeans to visit what is now Lake City were Spanish explorers in 1565 who were looking for an island off the coast of Cuba that they thought might be rich in maritime resources. They named it La Isla de los Castillos (Castilla Island). A expedition led by Ferdinand Magellan discovered La Isla de las Vegas on January 8, 1583 while sailing north from Peru across the Pacific Ocean. Magellan named it Las Vegas after King Philip II of Spain because he had seen a replica of a castle in Madrid that looked like a castillo (the modern day Castillo de la Plaza Mayor). In 1763, James Kenedy founded Fort Kenedy on land he had purchased from Osceola County with hopes of controlling trade between Spanish Florida and British Georgia through Pensacola Bay. After only two years, Fort Kenedy was abandoned because Native American allies destroyed it during a raid led by war chief Muscogee Chief Tecumseh. In 1802, Jacksonville became the capital of Seminole County; however, most important business activities took place in Tallahassee until 1821 when Jacksonville was replaced as county seat by Lake City after its incorporation into Seminole County. At first there was little development within town limits as most people worked on nearby farms or fisherman's boats moored along Pensacola Bayou which served as their water supply and transportation link to Key West and Tampa respectively However over time new businesses cropped up such as grocery stores, service stations and banks- quickly becoming one of the largest industries in town One constant throughout all these changes has been Lakecity's love affair with music - both popular songs written by local residents and bands that played live concerts at local venues throughout the years As recently as 2003, "The New York Times" reported that "LakeCity has evolved into one of America’s leading music capitals." Lake City, Florida is an unincorporated community in Putnam County, Florida, United States. It lies on the St. Johns River, about 12 miles from the town of Jacksonville. The community was first established in 1887 as a summer resort for Gainesville and other nearby towns. The community became a permanent settlement when work began on the Putnam Canal in1892 and construction continued until 1898. In 1905, Lake City lost its status as a summer resort when it was placed within the limits of Jacksonville by act of Congress. In 1911, Lake City had a population of 350 people; by 1926 it had shrunk to 101 people due to World War I rural-urban migration and increased automobile usage. However, the population again rose to 200 by 1950 because of post-World War II growth in Jacksonville and Gainesville. The last resident left Lake City in 1990.

The first permanent settler in Lake City was W.J. Livingstone, who arrived in 1875 and built a log cabin on the east bank of the Kissimmee River. The city name comes from Andrew Jackson's visit to Lake City in 1824 when he was President of the United States; he called it "the most beautiful town I ever saw".In 1896–97, Mayor A.B. Armstrong made an artificial lake on Fairbanks Hill with funding from Morse and other donors to increase commerce and tourism around town; by 1908, there were over 100 businesses in town and telephone service began operation that year
