Lake City is a small city located in Polk County, Florida, United States. It is the seat of Polk County government and the primary commercial center for the area. The population was 9,715 at the 2010 census. The city was founded on April 12, 1885 by J.M. Haines and Wm.C. Swenson as LakeCity Plantation. On January 1, 1899, it became a town under the jurisdiction of Polk County and was renamed to Lake City on February 14, 1899. The first coffee roaster in Lake City was Green Coffee Coffee Company which opened its doors in 1985 on Main Street near Westgate Mall. At that time coffee beans were roasted by hand in small batches using only premium grade Arabica beans from South America and Ethiopian Highlands regions and sold direct to consumers through their own store or at local convenience stores across Polk County during that early years of coffee history. In early 2009, Blue Bottle Coffee announced they would open up shop in Lake City with locations planned throughout southeast Florida including Jupiter (near Saint Petersburg), Ocala (near Gainesville), Live Oak (in Winter Garden), Fort Myers Beach (in Cape Canaveral) and Daytona Beach (on Daytona Beach Boulevard). This big news stirred up excitement among locals who had been awaiting such a high-quality CoffeeHouse opening since 2007 when caffeine addicts all over southeastern Florida started turning out for Blue Bottle's "Brewed By You" events that showcased unique artisanal coffees from around the country - often sourced directly from participating roasters! The first coffee shop in Lake City, Florida was opened in 1916 by James M. Newman and his brother-in-law, Harry W. Hickey. The Newman Coffee Shop was a small, unassuming building located on the corner of Orange Avenue and South University Street. In 1922, the brothers decided to open their own store and name it The Newman Coffee House. By 1933, The Newman Coffee House had become one of the most popular businesses in town with its fresh brewed coffee and delicious sandwiches. In 1935, The Newman Coffee House merged with the Citizens National Bank and became known as Citizens National Corporation. During this time, the company acquired an additional store on Orlando Avenue which was renamed Citizens National Mall later that year. In 1941, Citizens National Corporation merged with United States Steel to form United States Steel Corporation which continued to operate as a separate entity until 1948 when it became part of American Paper Products Incorporated (APPI). APPI operated as a division of American Paper Products until 1961 when it was merged into Honeywell International Incorporated (HWI). This merger resulted in Honeywell taking over all assets of APPI including its coffee operations which were placed under the newly created WI Coffee Company umbrella. Lake City is a small town located in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,569 at the 2000 census. It is part of the Tallahassee-Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first permanent settler in what is now Lake City was A.J. Huckaby in 1876. Huckaby named his land "Lake City" after his home state of Illinois and its capital city, Chicago. He also built a sawmill on the north side of town and started trading with Indians along the St Johns River. In 1888, J.P Ewing bought all of Huckaby's land and began developing it into a resort town that would become one of America's most popular tourist destinations for water activities such as canoeing, fishing, swimming and sailing. In 1922, another pioneer, Fenton Sayers opened Sayers' Marina on LakeCity Boulevard just south of town center to provide access to the many lakes and rivers in Polk County for boating and sailing enthusiasts from throughout the Southeast United States; he also operated a restaurant called "Sauer's". By 1923 nearly every branch office or store had been established in what is now Lake City; credit unions were added soon afterward to meet growing demand for installment loans from visitors who wanted to buy boat equipment or vacation rentals but did not have time to shop around among competitors in larger cities like Jacksonville or Tampa Bay where prices were much higher than they were back east at that time. When World War II began hostilities against Germany escalated rapidly across North America; materials needed for war production like munitions became scarce so prices went up dramatically which discouraged people from buying war-related items including boat equipment; however business continued briskly thanks to high demand from tourists who appreciated being able to enjoy local attractions while away from home during wartime times when people could only go out if there was something special happening nearby like an event at military installations or an exhibition at a zoo/museum etcetera

From 1934 to 1966, Lake City was part of Clearwater County; from 1966 to 1998, it was part of St Petersburg County.
