The Coast Guard has been in operation in Lake City, Florida for over a century. The first coast guard station was built on the present day site of the city hall in 1912. In 1923, the first Coast Guard helicopter was flown from this location. The Coast Guard Station in LakeCity was closed in 1969 and its equipment and personnel were transferred to Fort Myers, Florida. However, the legacy of Coast Guardsmen in Lake City continues today with the detachment of a Detachment 9-member Search and Rescue Unit that patrols NorthwestFlorida waters. Today, there are four coast guard stations located throughout Polk County - one at Estero Beach, one at Gulf Breeze, one at Port St. Lucie and one at West Palm Beach. Additionally, there are six boats operated by the Coast Guard which can be used for search and rescue missions or environmental protection operations; these include three Catalina helicopters (1948-1981), two Landing Craft Infantry (LCI)s (1959-1963), an Osprey tiltrotor aircraft (2007-) and a remotely piloted vehicle (RV) nicknamed “Wacky Wanda” which is currently being leased from private interests for use as a coastal security patrol vessel. The Coast Guard also employs public safety officers who provide law enforcement services on local streets and beaches as well as providing crowd control during large events such as holidays or state fairs. These officers wear uniforms similar to those worn by police officers but carry no firearms and are not limited to responding only to emergencies or crimes related to alcohol or drugs; they may also respond if called upon to protect people from danger encountered while exercising their constitutional right to free speech or assembly under Articulation I(a) of United States Constitution

Lake City, Florida is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida. The population was 5,671 at the 2010 census. It is in the Miami metropolitan area. The name "Lake City" comes from its location on Lake Okeechobee. The community was founded by Irish immigrants in 1871 as a citrus plantation and became a summer tourist spot for residents of Miami and other southern towns around it. In 1916, when US 1 was routed through the community to connect South Beach with Coral Gables, the town's name was changed to honor then-Governor James Murchison of Florida (the namesake of Miami). In 1924, during construction of US 1 and I-95, workers discovered oil reserves near what is now Lake City; this led to an oil boom that transformed the town into one of Florida's most affluent communities. After years of growth and progressivism under Mayor John Vargo (a Democrat), Lake City experienced significant decline beginning in the late 1990s as new development took hold within walking distance of shopping malls and schools. However, recent redevelopment has revived much of the downtown core and added more than 100 jobs to the municipality since 2006. Today, Lake City is an anchor neighborhood for both Downtown Miami's business district and Kendall Lakeshore Township which surrounds it on three sides; these neighborhoods are home to many high-end condos developments including Trump International Hotel/ Tower/ Tower Place (formerly known as Sheraton Gardens), MidtownMiami Financial District and several million dollars worth of mixed use projects such as Bayfront Park & Marinaland just north of I-95 exit 10A off State Road 810 southbound heading towards Doral Airport / Everglades National Park etc... After World War II ended, many residents moved away as technology advanced and jobs disappeared near military bases or manufacturing plants across Florida that required large amounts of manpower during peacetime times. However, some remain in Lake City today as retirees or professionals working remotely from various locations around the world
