In 1838, John Kemp started importing coffee beans from Java to England. The first espresso machine was created in Italy in 1892 by Angelo Fracastoro. In 1907, Starbucks Corporation was founded by Howard Schultz with the goal of bringing worldwide attention to coffeeshops and espresso machines. During World War II, many Americans relied on caffeine for energy purposes because it had not yet been discovered as an effective wartime stimulant like nicotine or caffeine that would help soldiers stay awake and focus during combat! Coffee became popular again after the war when people realized how beneficial it could be for civilians as well as soldiers! Lake City, Florida is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,814 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The area that now includes Lake City was originally called "Hernando" by the Seminole Indians. A post office was established at Hernando in 1836, and remained in operation until 1903. Lake City began to take form as a community after the railroad arrived in 1881. James Ladd donated land to make way for a depot and passenger road on his farm northwest of present-day Lake City. The first store opened in 1882 near what is now Main Street and US 1/US 460. The town grew rapidly thanks to its location on the express train line connecting Jacksonville with Tampa and other nearby cities. In 1886, Captain John Witherspoon donated land east of downtown for an academy to educate boys and girls interested in learning about farming and navigation. In 1895, Hernando County formed from portions of Polk County when it became apparent that local legislatures would not adopt new county boundaries without input from residents. In 1902, voters approved creation of LakeCity Township – one of four townships created within Polk County – based on recommendations from commissioners who toured the town during their term as commissioners at the time (the others were Live Oak Township (1893), Maitland Township (1900), and Winter Garden Township (1905)). It wasn't long before businesses started popping up all around downtown: a grocery store opened in 1901; two banks opened their doors that year; a Masonic Lodge was organized in 1905; chiropractor Drs Jenssen & Kapp set up shop downtown just three years later; auto parts supplier Richardson & Richards started shipping parts here shortly after… By 1913, people had built over 100 homes! A post office operated under the name "Lakecity" until 1963 when it changed its name to "Orlando." At least one business still operates today located on Main Street: The Ritz-Carlton hotel which closed down but reopened as an event hall several years ago

On December 1, 1993, Lake City voters approved annexation into Jacksonville, Florida. Today, the community is home to approximately 989 residents and has a total economic output of $2 million.
