Lake City is a small town in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,500 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola-Ft. Walton Metropolitan Statistical Area. The community is located on a bend in Lake City Creek, which forms its border with Escambia County to the south and east and Union County to the north. The first known permanent settler in what would become Lake City was John Pemberton in 1827. At that time it consisted of nothing more than a water hole surrounded by swamp land. By 1828 Pemberton had constructed a cabin and built some other small buildings around it for himself and his family. He named his new community "Lake City" after an Indian Chief who had been killed near present day Pensacola Bayou. In 1829 Pemberton's son David erected a stockade around his home; this became the first public building in what would become Lake City. In 1830 two men named Jethro Gibbs and Elijah White set out from Mobile, Alabama, on horseback to explore the area between Pensacola Bayou and Fort Brooke on Choctawhatchee River. They traveled overland until they reached their final destination at present day mile marker 224 (now milepost 231) on U S Hwy 19 south of Gainesville; from there they walked 3 miles (4 km) downriver to find an opening through which they could cross into Spanishman Key before continuing their journey back upriver In 1831 James Waddell arrived from Georgia with his family; he established Waddell's Landing along Pensacola Bayou about three miles downstream from where David Pemberton had built his cabin 10 years earlier Waddell's Landing served as both a trading post and local stopping place for immigrants traveling southward along Pensacola Bayou during that era In 1840 Isaac Payne founded Payne's Ferry landing just upstream of Waddell's Landing downstream from today's city limits This ferry landing served as one point of entry into or exit out of Spanishman Key during that era

Lake City is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,362 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Sanford Metropolitan Statistical Area. The town was founded in 1887 by Captain John A. Stephenson and his family as a result of land purchases from the Seminole Tribe of Indians. The first post office was established in 1889, and the first store was opened in 1893. In 1912, Stephenson donated land to create a park that would become known as Stephenson Park today. In 1923, Lake City incorporated as a municipality under the name of "Lake City" with a population of just over 100 residents. On November 5, 1925, an election resulted in the incorporation of both Kissimmee and Sanford into Lake City proper; this change increased its size to 498 residents by 1927. On May 25, 1928 – just one year after formation – Lake City had its first parade which featured floats made out of aluminum cans filled with water and decorated with American flags and pennants from local businesses and organizations. That same year saw the opening of its first school: Griggs Junior High School (now Griggs Elementary). In 1935-1936, Lake City experienced significant growth due to World War II luring servicemen home for their summer vacations; during that time it had 3 stores and 9 businesses open total including 2 banksnote printing plants operated by Citizens Bank & Trust Company (later JCB) on Main Street across from Griggs Elementary School until those plants were closed due to wartime regulations prohibiting note printing within military installations or zones subject to curfew control because such production could be used for enemy propaganda purposes or as tools for slave labor camps! It wasn't until 1948 when things started to slowly decline again with only 2 stores remaining open combined before they closed altogether due to lack of customers or competition from other towns within Polk County having larger populations than Lake City at that point; however some new development did take place on Main Street during this time including First National Bank which replaced Citizens Bank while also building what is now known as Lakeside Apartments complex on what was then known as West Avenue south of town limits - still considered today as one-time downtown business district serving both areas today! On December 14th 1956 night life finally got underway when locals gathered around distinctive looking fire pits/poker tables located along West Avenue Pour La Mairesse Drive near present day Old Hickory Blvd.; these poker nights eventually became called "The Big Game" after becoming nationally televised games played at various venues all throughout Southwest Florida beginning February 7th 1957 thru January 15th 1958 drawing tens OF DOLLARS each game!! By 1959 there were so many TV shows being aired here each week we actually received letters offering positions/contracts with local companies if we wanted them! Not bad for an old country hamlet like us eh? And yes those big games continued well into next decade too...
Lake City was founded in 1884 by Dr. John S. Clements as a dry salt and sugar storage town on the Suwannee River. It became an important commercial center after the railroad arrived in 1887, and saw growth in real estate and professions such as law, accounting, and medicine. The city's population reached 100,000 by 1907, but declined during the 1920s due to World War II shortages of food and resources. However, when the Gulf of Mexico oil boom began in the early 2000s, Lake City regained its stature as a major economic center with many businesses based in the city's downtown area.
