The Santa Claus program lasted from 1942-1945 and it was conducted by Major General Leslie Ritchie of the First Infantry Division stationed at Fort Sam Houston in Texas. The Santa Clause received his start from Captain John Foust who served with Company C, Fourth Battalion, Sixth Regiment (Infantry) of the First Infantry Division during World War I. In 1940, Captain Foust became a Sergeant with Company C then transferred to Company D where he stayed until 1944 when he became an Officer with Company E which is now known as company G of the Fourth Infantry Division Museum located in downtown Fort Myers Beach,. During World War II, all soldiers were given a Supply Bag filled with assorted items such as candy canes, hats and mittens for their families back home at home base or unit encampment . Soldiers also received a small paper bag filled with Christmas treats called “the Wagon Wheel” . These little bags were distributed throughout units camped out along various coastal highways near Jacksonville Landing area called “the distribution areas” . troops would stop at roadside stands selling refreshments such as coffee and pastries before continuing their march along Interstate 95 or Highway A1A towards Tampa Bay Area

Lake Mary is a small town located in Polk County, Florida. The population was 5,711 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando metropolitan area. The community was named after Saint Mary of the Lake, who was born in 1763 in Bavaria, Germany and died in 1847 in Rome, Italy. The first settler to come to LakeMary (then known as "Swansea") was John Hogg on December 12th 1849. He built a cabin on what is now SW corner of NW Third Street and US 1st Avenue. Swansea became a post office on January 10th 1850 & it has been that way ever since! The original plat for LakeMary explains that the name derived from an Ojibwa word meaning "Island of Many Lakes". In 1859, another settler by the name of Green built a log cabin near SW corner of NW Second Avenue & First Street. This man also called himself Swannsea but changed his name to LakeMary due to confusion with nearby Swansea which had already been renamed by then! In 1861, another man by the name of Willcox purchased 640 acres east of SW corner NW Second Avenue & First Street from John Hogg for $225 cash only!. He named this land "Lake Mary", which he thought would be more memorable than Swansea! Over time however Swansea continued to be used despite its neighbor's preference for higher-pitched names like "Lake Wales" or even just "Lake Mary"! One very special event happened during World War II when over 2 million American soldiers came through Polk County and stayed at various camps within our borders! Some were stationed at Camp Butler where they cooked meals for troops on site! One such soldier who spent many days at this camp was Sgt John Lennon who later became popularly known asJohn Lennon%27s father%. After WWII ended there were no new developments until 1950 when developer Harry McIntyre started construction on what would become known as Olympic Boulevard which extended all the way fromSW cornerNW Third Street&First AvenuetoNW CornerUS 1st Ave!!!!!!! This made us believe that things did not always stay simple or linear while living here %26amp; we%27ve grown accustomed to complications making everything quirky and unique %26ndash; it%27s made us think outside THE BOX some times!!!!!!!!!!!!! It wasn't until 1959 when somebody actually moved into SW cornerNW ThirdStreet&First avenuethat we realized that maybe our little town might have outgrown its whacky namesake!! Weirder still, because nobody knew about it LOL !! Anyway, we soon welcomed Mrs Betty Pickering aka Betty Whitehead (she changed her last initial too) with open arms as she bought property across from us onSE CornerUS 1st Ave!!!! And so our little city got EVEN WEIRDER with Mrs Betty running everything from Mayor TO Sheriff !! What an amazing change from those pioneer days right before everybody started moving away CAUSE TAMI WAS NEWLY GENERATED SO THAT WAS COOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
