Galt’s spree would continue throughout 1984 when he killed four people and injured thirteen others at an apartment complex near Jacksonville. In 1987, Galt shot and killed two people inside a restaurant in Fort Myers Beach after dark. That same year, he committed his last shooting rampage, this time wounding four people and killing one at an amusement park in Stuart. Lake Mary, Florida is a small community in Polk County, Florida. It was created in 1907 by the creation of the Polk County Agricultural and Mechanical District. The name Lake Mary comes from the Creek word "mary" which means "peaceful." At its peak in 1920, LakeMary had a population of 456 people. In 1951, when Riverbend Reservoir was created, it filled up to 90% of the original reservoir. As a result, much of Lake Mary was converted into open space and is now known as The Preserve. Lake Mary's namesake came about because at one time there was a small body of water called "Mary," located in what is now Polk County. A man named John Swayze donated land to make way for an inflatable pool that would become part of Riverbend Reservoir. Today, you can see remnants of this old pool just south of town on State Road 922 near US-41. The first residents in what is now Lake Mary were farmers who grew corn and wheat along with other crops until 1907 when they built their first cabin on land donated by John Swayze. By 1916, they had built another cabin and started trading goods with nearby towns including Winter Park and Live Oak. In 1922, they erected a sawmill which continues to be operational today as part of Hernando Industries Incorporated (HII). This mill produced wood products such as furniture and lumber until it closed down in 1978 due to costs associated with environmental regulation changes favored by then-President Jimmy Carter’s administration. In 1951 following Riverbend Reservoir's creation Palm Bay became the new home for most residents when Hernando Industries Incorporated relocated their plant from Winter Park to Palm Bay on Veterans Memorial Boulevard just east off SR-922 between US-441/SR-232/US 30./SR 521/FS 1087/. After years of growth during both World Wars II and later through various economic expansions – culminating with HII’s relocation back toWinter Park after 26 years – Palm Bay became America’s first ever “ bedroom community” housing more than 20,000 people within easy commuting distance from jobs at major corporations like AT&T or DuPont plants across downtown Tampa or St Petersburg or even points north like Clearwater Beach or Port Charlotte where beaches bordered those communities while inland villages continued unchanged save for closure due to lack Of affordable housing opportunities during these times
Lake Mary, Florida was founded by the Seminole Indians in 1815. The area now includes parts of Polk and Osceola counties, as well as Kissimmee and Sanford. In 1837, the town of Lake Mary was established on the east side of the lake. A smallpox epidemic in 1839 killed many people in the town. In 1865, a post office was established at Lake Mary; it remained in operation until 1959. The first school in Lake Mary was built in 1836; it closed down in 1954. In 1906, a dam were built across the creek that flows through center of town; this created a reservoir that supplied water to much of central Florida. On July 5, 1947, President Harry S Truman generosity bestowed upon LakeMary with an honorary title for excellence when he visited its community center to inaugurate a project designed to improve water quality around the locality
