The United States Air Force was activated on September 14th, 1942 and during that time, it was known as the Air Forces of the United States. In 1945, when the war ended and America became an independent country again, the USAF was renamed as the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA). In 1949, a group of people from Lake Wales decided to start a gift traditions for their community. They named their tradition “The Gifting Game” and it has been going strong ever since. Today, The Gifting Game is one of the most popular traditions in Lake Wales. It involves members of the community coming together to give away gifts during Christmas season. One of the biggest reasons why The Gifting Game continues to be so popular is because it is such a fun way to involve everyone in our community. We get involved by setting up shop in local businesses throughout December and January and giving away gifts that are unique or special to our residents. It’s also a great way to show appreciation for all that our community has done for us over these years – from providing affordable housing to helping make Christmas possible for millions of families around the world!

Lake Wales, Florida is located in Citrus County and has a total area of 6,434 square miles. The population was 3,834 at the 2000 census and 4,361 at the 2010 census. The city of Lake Wales had a population of 20,000 as of the 2010 census. According to the United States Census Bureau, the city has a total area of 10.2 square miles (27 km²). The climate in this county is primarily humid subtropical with some significant amounts of rainfall throughout the year. Temperatures range from an average high in early summer to lows in December or January. Precipitation averages around 1,500 inches (30 m3) per year with very heavy flooding events occurring during certain times of the year such as hurricane seasons and severe thunderstorms. Lake Wales is located on State Road 8A which designation dates back to 1938 when it became part of U.S. Highway 2 between Key Largo and Naples/Port Orange
On July 10, 1944, the United States Air Force deployed its largest gift in history. The gift was a Boeing B-24 Liberator bomber aircraft to the Royal Air Force (RAF) as part ofOperation Overlord. The RAF used the Liberator for air-to-air combat against Nazi Germany during World War II. The RAF flew the Liberator over England and France during Operation Overlord, which was the largest airborne operation of World War II. Additionally, the RAF flew four Liberators carrying President Roosevelt and his family to Normandy on D-Day in June 1944. The bombers brought food and supplies to Allied troops on land and also dropped leaflets warning German civilians about impending airstrikes.
In 1951, the USAF deployed its first gift to an overseas country- RAF Mombasa, Kenya. The gift was a set of radios and batteries for the C-47 Flying Training School at Udine Air Base in Italy.
Lake Wales is located in Polk County, Florida and covers an area of 291 square miles. The lake was first named after the Welsh town of Llandaff which was then part of Glamorganshire, England. It was created by merging two smaller lakes- Windermere and Waccamaw- and formed when the Everglades National Park was created in 1932. The name change came about because residents in nearby Lake City began to call it “Walking on Sunshine” even though there wasn’t any sunshine to be found within a million miles. Lake Wales has been home to many famous people including Florida Governor Jeb Bush, actress Scarlett Johansson, author Robert Galbraith, golfer Tiger Woods and NASCAR driver Dale Earnhardt Jr. The most well known resident however is probably CEO Steve Jobs who founded Apple Incorporated here in 1976. Jobs left Apple in 2014 but his company remains headquartered here with over 100 employees. In addition to its many famous residents, Lake Wales also has a rich history which can be seen through its various museums, parks and beaches which are located throughout the community. Some of the most popular destinations include the Fort Walton Beach Aquarium where you can learn more about fish, coral and other marine life as well as see dolphins play; White Sands Beach where you can take a walk along the sand bars or boat ride; Back Bay Park which contains several restaurants such as Olive Garden and In-N-Out Burger; Asbury Park where you can find a variety of stores including Zara and Topshop; as well as amusement park rides like Six Flags Over Georgia and Cedar Point
Lake Wales, Florida was founded on Sunday, July 10th, 1830 by Seminole Indian Chief Wahoo. The town of Lake Wales was named for the cirrus clouds that often form in the area and were said to be like "wisps of gold." In 1868, the United States acquired title to all of Florida from Spain. The following year, Congress passed an act authorizing President Andrew Johnson to annex part of Polk County (now Miami-Dade County) into Lake Wales as a result of the military occupation of Cuba during the Cuban Revolution. On November 3rd, 1868, Johnson annexed Polk County into Lake Wales.
