While many people believe that gifts such as national guard uniforms are only given out during special occasions or when members of the Guard are being honored with a promotion or award, this is not always true. Lake Wales is a natural body of water located in Sarasota County, Florida. The name comes from the Welsh word for "clear" or "blue." In 1835, the Spanish built Fort San Marcos on an island in the lake and named it La Caleta. The fort was abandoned in 1848 and the islands were sold to Colonel John C. Pennington who renamed them Lake Wales. Pennington's heirs donated land to the state of Florida in 1893 and established the State Park system there. The first white people to live in what is now Sarasota County were British colonists who arrived around 1763. By 1800, English settlers had spread across North America and founded settlements along the Gulf Coast. Afterward, many Germans moved into what is now Sarasota County and began accumulating property hereabouts. One such man was Johann Gottlieb Fritsch who bought 640 acres (250 hectares) on Pensacola Bayou near present-day Plantation Road in 1796. In 1815, German immigrants named Friedrich Bauer purchased 1,500 acres (500 hectare) of land east of current-day courthouse square from John Sutter for $5 per acre ($100). This area became known as Southside Township after Bauer Purchase. In 1825, three men - Jacob Weiser, Ernst Bacher, and Wilhelm Kapp - developed a mill on White Oak Creek at present-day Plantation Road while working for Jens Olsen at his sawmill on Big Cypress Creek just upstream from where today's courthouse stands. The mill failed within a year; however, this experience laid the foundation for other farming activities that would take place here over time: raising chickens for eggs and meat markets; growing cotton; cultivating sugar cane; salt mining; timber development; as well as important civic infrastructure projects such as early school systems: Pinellas County School District No 4 was chartered February 25th1827 by Governor James Kenedy.; Lighthouse Hill School District No 2 was organized December 12th1829 by Captain Augustus Purdy with money raised by subscription from citizens.; Tampa Female Academy opened its doors November 1st 1830 with teacher Mrs Hennepin being one of its founders
Lake Wales is located in Broward County, Florida. The town of Lake Wales was founded in 1892 by J.C. Hargrave and P.F. Stephenson as a result of the construction of the Miami and Erie Railroad between Fort Lauderdale and Miramar. The name comes from Welsh word "Lwyd" meaning water and "Wales" meaning homeland or country. In 1954, Lake Wales annexed neighboring unincorporated communities of crystal creek, jonesboro, meadow Grove, and west palm beach to create the city of Lake Wales proper. As a result of annexation, Crystal Creek became part of the city limits while Jonesboro became an independent community within the city limits. West Palm Beach became an independent community within the city limits in 1959 but remains part of thecity limits today.
