Tactical coffee is an American tradition, dating back to the early 1800s. At that time, coffee was a rarity and expensive. So, coffee beans were rationed and stored in barrels or cans. Coffee drinkers would take small sips from these unique containers to provide energy for long walks or hikes through the forest. The first tactical coffee shop opened in Lake Wales, Florida in 1912. The first person to serve Tactical Coffee was Dr. James Aiken who worked at the nearby military hospital. In 1916, Dr. Aiken passed away and his son took over the business as owner/manager until his death in 1948. In 1954, Colonel John Coker founded Coker's Pharmacy on UF Parkway which became one of the earliest retail stores selling tactical coffee products prepared by Captain Jack Dempsey himself! In 1969 Captain Jack Dempsey died and his widow Regie decided to keep the store open as a memorial museum with displays about Dempsey's life and career including photos of him drinking Tactical Coffee! In 1980 Mrs. Dempsey donated all of her profits from the store to local Boys & Girls Clubs which has continued to support this important community service ever since! Today there are over 100 businesses that sell tactical coffee worldwide! These businesses offer different flavors, packages (single Serve or double Serve), delivery methods (ground vs bagged), and competitions ( annual World Cup qualifying tournament). Lake Wales, Florida is a small town in Duval County, Florida. The population was 1,594 at the 2000 census. It is located on the east coast of Palm Beach County and includes the towns of Kissimmee and Lake Wales. The first known residents of this area were Native American Apalachee Indians who lived along the present-day route that leads to Jupiter Island. In 1795, Sir John Callender explored what is now Duval County and named it after his friend and patron, Sir Walter Raleigh. In 1819, Captain James Cook discovered land to the south of what is now Lake Wales while exploring Pensacola Bay. He named it "Watauga", after a Cherokee chief he had encountered on his trip. This name was applied to an area that included much of present-day Seminole Nation territory before it was ceded to the United States in 1821 as part of the Treaty of Paris following America's victory in the Mexican–American War (1846–48). In 1839, David Boren purchased 2 million acres (8 km²) around Tampa Bay from AJS Pease for $10 million dollars; this became Broward County when Florida became a state in 1912. At its creation, Broward County included all but one percent of Pinellas County which then consisted only of Hillsborough Township north of St Petersburg. As development took place throughout Duval and Osceola counties away from downtown areas such as Tampa or Sunrise Boulevard – centered mainly around Clearwater – people began referring to what used to be downtown as "the Swamp." In 1876, a group of businessmen in Philadelphia pooled their resources and founded The Coffee Company, which became one of the largest coffee companies in the world. One of its first products was a blend of Arabica and Robusta beans. In 1903, The Coffee Company merged with two other companies to form Universal Coffee Corporation. Universal was responsible for developing many classiccoffee varieties such as Breakfast Joe, Java Joe, Turkish Delight, Argyle Blend and creamerless milk systems. Over time, Universal began producing pour-overs (small cups) instead of large urns or cans for distribution throughout stores. This made it easier for customers to find what they were looking for on-premises as well as when they wanted it. Additionally,Universal developed automated brewing equipment which allowed them to produce more consistent quality beverages at lower costs than ever before. In 1961, The Coca Cola Company acquired Universal Coffee Corporation and continued production under their own name until 1996 when they merged with PepsiCo Inc. In 2016, all assets and operations of Universal Coffee were transferred to Peet's Coffee America LLC subsidiary

Lake Wales is a small, ZIP code-rich community located in Pinellas County, Florida. The name of the community was derived from Welsh Lake Wirral which means "large and deep." The area that makes up today's Lake Wales was once part of the Apalachicola River colony. The first permanent European settler in what is now Lake Wales was James O'Keefe who arrived on July 6, 1836. At that time, it consisted of only a few trailers and an Indian camp. It wasn't until 1840 when traders started to arrive looking for land to sell in central Florida. These early settlers were mostly English; however, some Scots also settled there during this time period. In 1842, Captain John Mackey founded Key West on Miami Beach as a Spanish mission town as part of the Cuba–Florida canal project. One of the earliest businesses in town was Jervis Dry Goods which opened its doors on October 15th, 1849. Jervis Dry Goods became one of the most successful retail businesses in town and played a major role in developing the local economy for years to come. In 1865, Captain Aiken purchased 1/2 acre (0.24 km²) at present day intersection of US-1 and FM 1723 from Stinson Brothers Auctioneers for $10 dollars per acre ($240 per square kilometer). This site would become Aiken Park which includes much of what is now downtown Lake Wales. early residents here included Philip Hennepin who built his sawmill just outside town limits along US-1W near present day SW 8th Avenue; General Grant who resided about two miles east on SR 516E; Copley Swift Agnew who lived four miles north on US 1 south from what is now NW corner Of NW Third Street between MLK Blvd &NW Fourth Street; Drury Post office began operations at this location September 2nd 1870.; future Mayor William Brickell had been working as clerk at Aiken's store when he first met Mayor Edward Ewing Haigh aboard Ewing's steamboat SS President Johnson anchored off Fort Myers about three weeks prior to Haigh's election victory over incumbent Andrew Mellon February 14th 1870.; Mrs.-Mrs.(?) founded First Methodist Church December 15th 1870 by combining services held at several churches existing aroundtown with donations by Mrs.-Mrs.(?) herself.–Doris Kearns Goodwin
