The first recorded mention of coffee in the area can be found in 1814 when Spanish travelers noted an Indian village that had grown rich from their trade with the Brazilian coast. Coffee was first tasted by Europeans on October 12th, 1764 when Captain John Cook stopped at what is now known as Fort Myers Beach on his way back to England after exploring the Florida Peninsula. The first coffee house in Lake Worth was opened by Elisha Keith and his brother Amos in 1827. At that time, coffee beans were imported from Brazil and then roasted and sold fresh or dried at local grocery stores. The Keith brothers were also responsible for introducing chocolate to America during this time. Coffee began to be brewed commercially around 1851 when George Washington Carver started brewing Coffee No 1 near present-day Cross Keys Boulevard. By 1865, two large plantations had been established around Lake Worth – Sweetwater Plantation and Waco Plantation – which led to the growth of commercial coffee production throughout south central Florida. In 1886, General Motors opened its new plant adjacent to Intracoastal Waterway which led to increased demand for coffee exports throughout southeast Florida. In 1913, Harry Jourdan became a partner in the companys parent company French National Coffee Corporation (FNC). FNC would later become one of largest brewers of coffees and tea in the United States with operations stretching into thirty-six states across six continents. In 1971, FNC merged with Peet's Coffee Company creating one of North Americas leading foodservice companies with over $40 billion USD annual sales worldwide

Other popular tourist destinations include Lighthouse Point State Park which offers opportunities for fishing, swimming, boating, hiking/walking/climbing etc., as well as picnicking on the beach; Pedestrian malls such as Dolphin Mall and The Galleria Shopping Center; shopping centers including Pacific Mall Southcenter; Interstate 95 Business District; Atlantic Highlands Airport;[1] Asbury Park Convention Center which also houses several theaters,[2][3][4] along with nightlife options like Club America nightclubs located inside Vector Arena complex[5][6][7], multiplex cinemas like Regal Cinemas Parkway Place[8], bars such as Paddy's Pub,[9] Grille Burger Joint,[10][11][12],[13] Bubba Gump Shrimp Pounders restaurant,[14],[15],[16]), golf courses like Harbour Town Golf Course,[17], tennis courts at Daytona International Speedway also close down during events such as live music performances or big sales.[18](See: History of Lake Worth) As one of only two cities within Palm Beach County that does not have an incorporated municipality status (the other being Coral Springs), much responsibility for local government falls upon unincorporated committees made up largely of business owners who meet monthly or more frequently than required by law without any elected officials present. These committees provide oversight over things like fire protection services, public works projects etc., while final decisions about spending are left up to village board members who answer directly only to their business owners counterparts—a scenario that has come into conflict in recent years with residents feeling they're not getting what they expected from local government despite having voted them into office through donations or membership dues A number of initiatives have been put forth in recent years aimed at reviving City Hall activity levels but all have failed either because there isn't enough money raised or because residents don't feel their concerns are being taken seriously In response some groups have formed called Citizens Committee for Community Improvement which has started holding meetings outside City Hall more often where issues can be discussed more openly

They also built two grand country houses: The O'Connell House at 7001 Northlake Boulevard and The Hermitage at 6001 Northwest 64th Street. The town began to grow rapidly during World War II when soldiers returning from combat brought their families with them to live and work in Lake Worth. In 1946, the city of Palm Beach annexed neighboring unincorporated communities including West Palm Beach and Boynton Beach; these annexations were formalized with incorporation into Palm Beach County on May 1, 1947. Today, Lake Worth remains one of South Florida's most popular tourist destinations for retirees, day tourists, college students and family vacationers alike. One of the earliest businesses to open in Lake Worth was Jardine’s restaurant which opened its doors on December 12th 1913 on Fifth Avenue between 95th Street and 96th Street (now part of SW 8th Avenue). Jardine’s operated as a sit-down dining establishment serving American-born expatriate military personnel stationed at Fort Lauderdale Naval Station until 1917 when they moved to Fort Myers (then Clearwater) because they could not get permits for operating out of Cuba due to U.S embargo regulations then in effect prohibiting such activities by American citizens living overseas at that time! As early as 1915 there were plans underway for a shopping center adjacent to Jupiter Island which would include movie theaters (the first ever outside Havana), grocery stores (including Mr & Mrs Williamson’s department store), banks (Jardine’s bank being one among several), post office(opened February 1916)and hotel(opened March 1916). Unfortunately this never came to fruition as financial problems kept arising throughout many different businesses folded up shop or went bankrupt due primarily to lack of demand or competition from other similar ventures popping up around town like Suncoast Aviation hangar yards or Pompano Beach Oceanfront Wharf Estates development! In 1918 Jacksonville developer Harry Harkins purchased an island next to Jupiter Islan
