The station was used to test new aircraft and provide training for future naval aviators. In 1969, NAS Lake Worth became part of the United States Navy and was renamed USS Enterprise (CVN-65). Enterprise served as a flagship for Commander U.S. Pacific Fleet from 1987-1991 and again from 1997-2000. She also served as Flagship of the Atlantic Fleet from 1998-2001. On 15 August 2002, CVE-65 Enterprise collided with USS John F Kennedy (CVN 78) while underway off Hawaii after night operations in support of Operation Southern Watch. Both ships were damaged but Enterprise continued onward to Pearl Harbor where she arrived on 8 September 2002. After being decommissioned on 30 October 2001 she was scrapped at Kawasaki Heavy Industries Ltd., Japan on 7 November 2003

The post office was established in 1892 and named for Worth, a white man who donated land to the town. Today, Lake Worth is an all-white community with a large black population. The town has experienced significant growth over the past few decades, thanks to its location on Interstate 495 and its access to major shopping malls and resorts. The earliest evidence of human activity at what is now Lake Worth dates back to 10,000 BC when Paleo-Indian groups traveling from east Africa entered Florida through the Everglades National Park. By 900 AD, Native American groups had moved into central and southern Florida; these were the Creek Indians. In 1764, Spanish explorer Hernando de Soto discovered this area when he passed through the region on his way southward to establish control over Cuba. At that time there were no settlements within present-day Palm Beach County or within any of modern day Broward or Miami counties; only Fort Lauderdale lay adjacent to Havana Harbour on Jupiter's Coast (now part of West Palm Beach). The Spanish began logging and hunting in this area during their occupation but it wasn't until after they departed that settlers began populating what is today Lake Worth with blacks fleeing slavery in Mexico City via Santo Domingo in 1693. In 1847 Jacksonville became an independent republic under Mexican rule; as such it excluded all Black Seminoles living within its borders from political participation or citizenship This caused much tension between Blacks and Mexicans until President James Kiefer signed Executive Order 9981 which recognize Black Seminole tribal sovereignty As a result of EO 9981 many Blacks were able to purchase property outside of Jacksonville proper while others integrated into white neighborhoods throughout much of Jacksonville county After discrimination against Blacks persisted throughout most of US Epoch I (1860 - 1920), Latinos assumed leadership positions within government agencies This led eventually to various efforts by both Whites and Latinos towards creating equality for all citizens regardless of race or ethnicity In 1932 White Councilman Waddell decided that annexation would benefit both races by giving them more integration into local society During hurricane Andrew's approach on October 24th 1992 many residents vacated their homes leaving behind structures made largely outta plywood with no storm protection capabilities; due primarily to public outcry this initiative was quickly reversedFollowingAndrew's passage through Hurricane Ivan damage assessments revealed extensive structural failures throughout much Ofthecommunity including complete loss of roofs/windows along with extensive water infiltration thereby resulting in several fatalitiesMost notably noted physician Dr Ishmael Reed who lost numerous patients as well as his home insured priorTo Hurricane IvanIrma inside his clinic & subsequent death toll estimate rose from 15-25% To 30-40% Post Hurricane Ivan tidal surges have resultedin losses totaling $5 million+ With recent additions like Anakka Keys & Belle Glade countless subdivisions yet undeveloped hundreds if not thousand homes could be Added without impacting quality or character
