The squadron flew three C-130J aircraft from Lakenheath Air Base in England to Lakeland on Dec. 6. Each plane had a load of gifts for the children and their families. Each plane arrived with a flag representing one of the squadron's five regions: Europe, Asia Pacific, South America, Africa or The Americas.

It consists of two parts: an inner city (the downtown area) that surrounds the lakeshore and includes many large government buildings as well as some smaller businesses and residences; and a rural/suburban area to the east which includes most of the agricultural areas within Polk County. The first town in what would become Polk County was built on land purchased from Native Americans by Captain John Campbell in 1794. He renamed it Fort Worth after his home state of Virginia. In 1837, Captain James Wilkinson founded Lakeland after taking over command of Fort Worth from Campbell's lieutenant colonel John Armstrong while Armstrong was away fighting against Seminole Indians near Tampa Bay. Wilkinson named his new town for himself, hoping to show American settlers that he had taken charge instead of Armstrong who they felt should have been given credit for victory over those pesky Seminoles
