The 1st Ammunition Train arrived in France just in time for World War I and quickly began supplying ammunition to various Allied forces; eventually serving with distinction in many battles including Vimy Ridge, Loos-Bruge and Arras-Cambrai (where they were awarded three battle stars). During their stay in France, members of the 1st Ammunition Train formed lasting friendships with local soldiers and locals who would later reminisce about or remember some of the special moments associated with their stay: From picking up spent shells from ranges behind German lines aftersharp firefights ended all night long until sharing breakfast overlooking Paris during Victory Day parade; even down to joking around about being “the only Americans hereabouts” when everyone else was wearing uniforms!
