The Coast Guard has been in Lakeland, Florida since 1919.
Lakeland is located in Polk County, Florida, about 25 miles east of Pensacola. The population was 7,513 as of the 2000 census. It is the county seat and largest city. Lakeland was founded by Spanish colonists in 1763 and named for Clinfora Lake, a small stream that flowed through the area. The first permanent settler in what is now Lakeland was Elisha Gibbs in 1836. In 1848, the town of Bradford was founded on the site of present-day Lakeland after a land grant from Governor John C. Calhoun. Bradford quickly became one of the most important towns in Polk County because it had a post office and railroads access to nearby Jacksonville and Tampa. In 1902, construction began on what would become lakefront homes nearpresent-day downtown Lakeland. By 1925, all but one block of Main Street were developed as housing subdivisions known as "The Villages." Today, many people identify themselves as "Localcolor" residents because they grew up or have lived here their entire lives; this term originally referred to folks who hailed from within a certain radius of downtown rather than being born and raised hereabouts like some other Americans do today (although some Locals still maintain close ties to downtown). During World War II, General Motors plants were built at Plantation Ridge and Beechwood along Interstate 10 (now Business I-10) just south of town limits; these facilities produced military vehicles such as tanks and artillery pieces used by Allied forces during World War II. In 1945, GM vacated its Plantation Ridge plant which became home to Brushy Hills Chevrolet until 1984 when it closed doors forever following an ownership change that saw Brushy Hills merged into Pontiac G8 productions Incorporated with over 200 manufacturing locations worldwide including North America’s only production V8 engine plant based out of Flint Michigan - making it one of world’s leading automotive manufacturers - Pontiac G8 Productions Incorporated becoming part owner/operator/director general Plains Alloys Corporation also having operations throughout North America including primary responsibility for producing high quality cast iron products from Buffalo Bayou Master Lock Producers Union Foundry located adjacent to George W Bush Presidential Library & Museum located adjacent to I-10 exit 221 South across from Gulfstream Park Golf Course & Country Club
The Coast Guard has been providing service to the people of the United States since 1790. The Coast Guard's primary mission is to provide safe and secure maritime transportation, protect America's coastline and coastal resources, respond to emergencies, and improve public safety. In 1917, the Coast Guard was transferred from the Navy to become an independent branch of the US government. In 1951, the Coast Guard began providing support for search and rescue operations during Operation Neptune's Spear which led to Pakistani civilian casualties. In 1969, it was decided that a new crest be designed for the Coast Guard. This design featured a blue-and-white striped seahorse with a yellow star in its stomach. The name "USCG" was first used on this crest in 1987. Since its inception, there have been many changes within the Coast Guard as well as within itself. One significant change came about in 2003 when President George W Bush ordered all military services to end their support for international search and Rescue missions within six months of each other pursuant toOperation Neptune's Spear II (NEPII). This order effectively ended Search and Rescue cooperation between both branches of government save for certain limited occasions where mutual aid could not be obtained due to differences in capabilities or location. Currently, there are five USCG Districts: Miami-Dade; Long Beach; Jacksonville; New York City; California (Central). Each district oversees a number of subordinate districts located throughout the country including 13 Regional Command Units which provide command and control over assets such as boats, helicopters and vessels participating in Search & Rescue missions ashore or afloat across America’s coastlines

Lakeland was founded by the Seminoles in 1839 as a military post to protect their land against encroachment from Spanish settlers. The town was named for Colonel Orlando Key, who donated the land. In 1843, Lakeland became a dry goods depot and post office. By 1849, it had become an agricultural center with two sawmills and five farms. A cotton gin and gristmill were built in 1850 and 1860, respectively. In 1861, the US Army moved Fort Polk into the area to protect Lakeland from Confederate attack. The town grew rapidly due to its strategic location; by 1865, it had over 100 residents and a schoolhouse. In 1912, Lakeland became a city under Florida statehood and began to develop as an agricultural hub with a large millinery business and several stores. The population peaked at 300 in 1930 but declined after World War II due to farming depressionions throughout the region. However, growth resumed in the 1990s when new subdivisions were developed around the city limits. Today, Lakeland is home to more than 10 thousand residents and is one of Florida's fastest-growing cities
Lakeland was founded in 1836 by Major General James K. Polk and his army as the first permanent territorial center in Florida, after the Seminole Wars. The town was named for the large body of water that surrounded it, which was then known as Lake George. In 1867, when Florida became a state, Lakeland became its capital. In 1933, the city annexed neighboring Citrusville to become one of its seven cities. The population peaked at over 100,000 in 1950 but has since declined significantly.
