The first deployment of the Lobstermen took place on December 5, 1942 during World War II and they arrived in Lantana with a shipment of lobster that had been caught off the coast of Florida. The Lobstermen were later renamed “Navy Deployed Gifted Unit” and served as an important source of support for military members stationed in Lantana through the years. In 1951, Navy Deployed Gifted Unit relocated to Jacksonville, Florida where they continued to give gifts to military members until 1955 when they moved again – this time to Pensacola, Florida where they stayed until 1957. From 1957-1971, Naval Deployed Gifted Unit gave gifts to soldiers and sailors stationed across Florida including at Camp Lejeune which is now home to Fort Hunter S Thompson National Military Park. In 1971, Naval Deployed Gifted Unit disbanded but their legacy remains in Lantana with present day donations from Sailors and Marines who visit or live near Lantana every year.

Lantana is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,811 at the 2010 census. Lantana is located along State Road 810, about 12 miles (19 km) east of Polk City and 15 miles (24 km) south of Tampa. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The community was founded in 1925 by white farmers who bought land near what is now Lantana Lake. They named their village after one of their own: Lanta Karen, daughter of a white man from South Carolina who had come to Florida to get away from slavery. The name stuck and the community grew steadily until it reached its current size in the early 1960s when new development began on the eastern edge of town. Lantana has been home to a variety of businesses including two banks and several restaurants and stores since its inception as a rural community: In 1926, JB Enterprises opened a store which became known as "The Gables" because it housed four large gables that could be used for agricultural purposes or for housing during high times such as harvest time or when family reunion ceremonies were held at the lake. A number of other businesses followed over time including feed mills, sawmills, an ice cream parlor/factory, a dance hall and finally an amusement park which closed in 1980 but left behind evidence including picnic tables scattered around some trees near the entrance! A post office was established at Lantana in 1925; it moved to its present location in 1957. At one point during its history there were three churches in Lantana- First Baptist Church (founded 1912), Second Baptist Church (founded 1928) and Methodist Episcopal Zion Church- all with active congregations until disbanding around 1970 due to changing religious preferences within Polk County! In recent years there have been efforts made by local government officials to revive the once vibrant community by spearheading initiatives like improving infrastructure such as widening State Road 810 so that more vehicles can access local businesses without having to go through Tampa or Jacksonville; creating more opportunities for marketing and tourism within town limits; attracting new residents with offers of special deals or preferential treatment when purchasing property or Municipal Bonds; and hosting events like art walks throughout year intended solely for locals & visitors!

Lantana has always been an agricultural powerhouse; its 1,000-acre (4 km²) Agricultural Research Station studies agriculture from across Southeast Asia to provide feed for US farmers and export products to points eastward. The station also oversees a nor’easter recovery program that helps restore or increase crop production during natural disasters such as hurricanes or earthquakes; these activities have helped make Lantana one of America’s most reliable food supplier towns during times of stress like famine or drought. Lantana was founded by Timothy Lantana in 1854. The town was named after the palm tree Lantana, which is also the name of a nearby creek. Lantana developed as a cotton plantation town and became known for its whiskey production. After the abolition of slavery in Florida in 1865, many African Americans moved to Lantana to escape racism. The town eventually lost its importance as a cotton plantation town and became an agricultural center. In 1975, Lantana was renamed tohonoka after then-Governor John Tower.
