The Florida National Guard is a volunteer militia force that protects the state of Florida. The unit was first organized in 1907 and became a national guard unit on July 1, 1951. Additionally, units that served in World War II were eligible to become permanently mobilized under Title 10 USC § 622(a) if called up before September 1939 but not activated due to peacetime conditions In 1955 Congress amended Title 10 USC § 622(a), making permanent mobilization possible only if required by war or national emergency . Air National Guard was created on April 12th 1949 as an armada designed for homeland defense should hostilities break out between the United States and another country . Initially it consisted onlyof fighter planes However over time it has evolved intoan airlift force providing air assault capabilities , commando forces ,and more recently helicopter operations

This development included high-end homes such as those at 12500 East Tamiami Trail (now called "The Lakes"). Now that most residents have left for other parts of Tampa Bay or South Florida, there are few reminders that annexation happened back in the day Today Largo functions primarily as an agricultural community with citrus production continuing to be one majorstay while smaller farms conduct agriculture based activities such as poultry farming or soybean production
