In Leesburg, Florida, the Coast Guard has been providing services to the community for over a century. The Coast Guard Station located on Pensacola Beach offers residents and visitors alike ample opportunities to enjoy its many amenities, including a range of water sports, fishing, bird watching and hiking. The Station is also home to the Leesburg Municipal Marina which offers both commercial and pleasure boating services. The Coast Guard's history in Leesburg can be traced back to 1881 when Captain Augustus A. King founded the station in what is now known as King's Landing Park. At that time there was only one small pier available for use by the townspeople and it was not until 1915 that an engine dock was built at Pensacola Beach. Since then, various improvements have been made to the station such as a new kitchen facility in 1984 which doubled as a barracks for officers during training exercises; an addition to the beach side park in 1995 which includes restrooms, showers and boat launching areas; and most recently, construction of a new visitor center which opened in 2009. In 2013-14 alone, 4200 items were donated by citizens of Leesburg through Operation Coastal Cleanup - more than any other year ever! Items donated include 2 large tanks (one from Navy Yard), 5 bicycles, 10 cans of food/water/snacks assorted flavors (from several restaurants), 25 signs with local vacation information (including addresses & phone numbers) and 1 large sunshade!

Leesburg is a small town in central Florida, located on the banks of the Apalachicola River. The population was 7,853 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Gainesville-Alachua-Stuart, FL metropolitan area. The first permanent habitation in what is now Leesburg was by Seminole Indians in 1765. A post office called "Leesburg" was established in 1825, and remained in operation until it was discontinued in 1893. In 1892, a group of settlers from Georgia arrived and founded the towns of Auburn and Gainesville on land that had been purchased from the Creek Indian tribe. The following year, they organized as a town under the name "Leesburg". In 1907, they changed their name to "Leesburg" after General James Hogg who had helped engineer and build Fort Jackson which later became Charleston, South Carolina. A local water supply began to be developed through well drilling early on; however this project proved difficult due to sandbars along the river's course. By 1912 there were over fifty wells drilled supplying energy to local mills and businesses around Leesburg while also providing drinking water for nearly one thousand residents! The installation of pipelines during World War I increased production but also caused some damage as a result of artillery fire! Following World War II, Leesburgh experienced rapid growth as many veterans returned home from war plants all across America with new ideas for economy development which led to an increase in business opportunities especially within retail areas like grocery stores etc., thereby improving quality of life for citizens overall! With continued economic growth throughout this period; infrastructure expansions like: an expressway (I-95) connecting Leesburg with Jacksonville/Stuart County; new housing developments such as: Plantation Estates subdivision - now known as Historic District; Justin Woods subdivision - now known as Rivers Edge Drury Drive – major league baseball player Tiger Woods’ childhood home – all contributing factors have resulted making today’s community one full of diversity including professional athletes & their families living close by while young people are exposed to traditional American values & culture daily!

In 1976, the Coast Guard became an all-volunteer organization and today operates more than 9500 vessels and 4700 stations around the world. Leesburg is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,812 at the 2010 census. It was founded in 1892 by J.D. Lees and named for his father-in-law, General George Washington Lees. Leesburg was originally part of the Creek Nation and first settled by Seminoles in the area now known as downtown Leesburg. The town's commercial development began with the opening of a post office in 1892 and an Lumber Yard just south of town in 1896. The community rapidly grew due to its location on U.S. 301 between Tallahassee and Gainesville, its close proximity to military installations (the Army's Fort McAllister and Navy's Naval Station Pensacola), its shopping mall (the first built in Florida), its easy access to Interstate 495, and its various schools: two elementary schools (Emmalyn Elementary School from 1898 until 1955; Golden Key High School from 1957 until 1992), two middle schools (Fort Pierce Middle School from 1963 until 1988; later called Reagan Middle School), one high school (Leesburg High School since 1990) which became a Magnet school after it merged with nearby Plantation Christian Academy in 1990, three Junior Colleges that opened throughout Monroe County during the early 21st century: Stonington College,[1] Jacksonville Technical Community College,[2][3] Miami University – Leeson Campus.[4] In addition to these colleges, many local businesses also offer undergraduate or graduate degrees such as business administration or engineering.[5] Today Leesburg is home to over 100 businesses making it one of the most vibrant communities within Monroe County
Leesburg was founded on December 12, 1835 by James K. Polk and his wife Julia. It is named for General George Armstrong Custer, who died in 1876 during the Mexican-American War. The town growth was spurred by the Seminole Wars and the gold rush of 1848. By 1860, Leesburg had a population of 3,000 people and it grew to 10,000 by 1870. The first post office was established in 1839 and Leesburg became a county seat in 1850. In 1861, Confederate troops burned down the courthouse and all but one building in town after they were forced out of nearby Tooele County during the Civil War.
