Leesburg is located on the eastern edge of Sanford and just east of Kissimmee. In recent years Leesburg has undergone some redevelopment with new housing developments popping up all over town while older properties have been repurchased or converted into multi-unit apartments or condos for sale online or in reality. Leesburg's economy largely depends on its proximity to Orlando which continues to grow more diverse each day with job opportunities across a wide range of industries from technology to arts and entertainment to health care; making it one of the most vibrant communities in central Florida!

"Buddy" Smith and his family arrived in their horse-drawn wagon from Jacksonville, Florida to start a citrus farm hereabouts that would later be renamed Buddy's Orchard and produce over one million gallons of oranges each year! Orange production would continue until 1965 when production was halted due to disease brought byArabians with phylloxera (a type of whitefly). Citrus diseases are still a problem in some parts of south FL today! The first store opened in 1916 on Commercial Street which served as the nucleus around which many businesses developed including: The Garden City Store (1916-1920), The Flowers Shop(1921-1965), Mrs. Kapp's Drug Store (1922-1967), Mr. Musgrave's Hardware(1924-1978), The Creamery(1945-1976) and most importantly First Baptist Church which worshipped there from 1926 until its recent conversion into condominiums in 2009! Over time many other businesses sprung up such as: The Giant Truck Stop (1960s & 1970s), Goodyear Tire & Rubber Supercenter/Shoe Emporium (1970s & 1980s), Pritchett Furniture Mart (1980s - 1990s) and finally Myrtles Park Place 2003-. Drinker Beware though as several major roads have been changed or improved since then making it difficult to get through town without getting lost or times changing your destination 2x!
The Leesburg, Florida community was founded on a small island in the Miami River by W.H. Lewis in 1887. The island was later bought by the Stephens family and renamed after them in 1917.
