Leesburg is a town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,452 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–Hollywood metropolitan area. The first permanent European settlers in what would become Leesburg were Englishmen who arrived in 1764. By 1835, the Seminoles had killed all but one settler in what is now Leesburg and took over most of the area. In 1841, a group of Confederate officers led by General Andrew Jackson decided to purchase all of Brevard County from Seminole Chief Osceola for $5,000 cash and an additional million acres (2,500 km²) for development. Jackson's 7th Infantry Brigade established Camp Floyd on November 10th 1861 to support his campaigns against Johnston and Braggs during the American Civil War. On February 24th 1863, General Ulysses S. Grant ordered Camp Floyd evacuated due to lack of food supplies after they captured Fort Donelson two days earlier from Johnston's army under Lieutenant Colonel James Longstreet Jr.. A few weeks later on July 16th 1863 Confederate Major General Jubal Early attacked Union forces at First Bull Run near Manassas Junction then retreated across the Potomac River before reaching Washington D.C.. The Battle of Antietam Park near Fredericksburg on September 17th 1863 ended early with significant Union casualties as LtCol John Moultrie destroyed much artillery used by Early while leading five regiments into action opposed only forty-eight men from George Armstrong Custer's 3rd Cavalry Brigade which managed to get close enough to fire three volleys without loss The surrender of Lee at Appomattox Court House effectively ends any hopes for Confederate victory in Southern Virginia; however this does not mean that Confederate forces ceased operations in Northern Virginia or West Virginia; rather these troops simply migrated southward into those states under Federal occupation until 1865 when they were finally mustered out and returned home

Leesburg is a census-designated place in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 9,827 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Orlando–Kissimmee–West palm Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The first white person to live in what is now Leesburg was James Auld who arrived from Scotland in 1784 with his family. Auld's home and estate were located on present-day Leesburg Boulevard. James Auld's descendants continued to reside in the area until 1892 when they sold their holdings to General Philip Sheridan Sr., son of Lieutenant General Philip Sheridan. The town started as a small station on Jacksonville Road just northwest of present day Winter Park which served ferry passengers and travelers going into or out of Central Florida due to its convenient location for both travel and trade connections. In 1823, Daniel Boone opened up a store near what is now US 1 after traveling through Jacksonville and visiting several locations including Winter Park where he had lived before moving westward in search of new land. During this time, Jacksonville Road became known as "Boone Boulevard." A post office called Boonesborough was established in 1824 by Jno Cranch Richardson (1788-1868), one of several early settlers who migrated from Virginia during the American Revolutionary War era seeking new land southward along the Stono River Valley route then being surveyed by Captain John Smith (1678-1745). The first postmaster general was Nathaniel Bacon (1787-1864). WhenJacksonville Road became known as "Boone Boulevard," mail stopped being transported over it because there wasn't yet an ocean link between Jacksonville, Florida and Baltimore, Maryland! In 1830, Colonel Nathaniel Banks bought 640 acres northeast of present day Leesburg from Abram Griggs for $2 per acre. Colonel Banks named his property Belle Glade after his daughter Belle – giving rise to current claims that Belle Glade originally referred to an earlier trading post which may have been located near present day Winter Park; however there is no evidence any such Trading Post ever existed! In 1837 Captain Rufus King built Fort Brooke on Plantation Creek east of junction of US 1 and I-4 road about two miles north east of today's Leesburg Blvd., within modern boundaries of Daytona Beach proper! By 1840 US 1 had become known as State Road 507 where it crossed Redington Creek at milepost 7 below modern I-95 exit ramp! Today you can still see some remnants - including old gravesites -of this fortification which saw service during the Seminole Wars against Seminole Indian forces
