The Lighthouse Point Coast Guard Station has been in operation since 1907. It is one of the oldest coast guard stations on the Florida mainland. The Coast Guard Station was originally established to protect the western shore of Lighthouse Point from whaling ships and other vessels. In 1934, the station was enlarged to include a lookout tower and a harbor defense battery. In 1967, the Coast Guard Station was relocated from its original location on the north side of Lighthouse Point to its present location on the south side of the point. In 1987, an extension for the lighthouse built at nearby Saint Petersburg Landing became part of the station’s property. The new extension provides additional office space and allows for better communication between different parts of the Coast Guard Station. In 2000, another addition to the station’s property became available when it purchased land adjacent to Cimarron Marina. This new addition includes a boat ramp and shop/dining area forStation personnel as well as storage capacity for Vessels used by Coastal Services deputies during investigations or strikes against vessels owned or operated by private owners located within 100 nautical miles of any U.S.-registered port or seaport inlet! Since 2007, Lighthouse Point has also been home to one of Florida’s only marine science labs - MARINE MUSEUM OF FLORIDA! This museum features exhibits about sea life, minerals, fossils and more from throughout Earth's history! admission is free (but donations are very much appreciated)!

Lighthouse Point is a small town located in Palm Beach County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,872 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Everglades City Micropolitan Statistical Area. Lighthouse Point was founded in 1849 by Captain John A. Tuttle and his wife Lydia Tuttle as a lighthouse on the banks of the Miami River, about northwest of downtown Miami. In 1892, Lighthouse Point became part of the city of Miami and it ceased to be an independent municipality in 1974 when it merged with other municipalities within the city to form the current metropolitan area. The original lighthouse building still stands and is used as a museum today. Lighthouse Point has been known for its salt water beach which stretches for nearly two miles east-west and can host both sunbathing and swimmingsuits from high season through September; as well as its white sand beaches that are popular with snorkelers, divers and kayakers during low tide. Lighthouse Point also offers boat rentals including jet skis and Canoes/Rafts while visitors can purchase snacks from local restaurants or access municipal golf courses nearby if they so desire. The town's rich history begins with Spanish settlers who arrived in what would become Lighthouse Point around 1795; one account mentions finding "a very good harbor" on site where they could unloaded their goods before continuing inland on their journey to Havana or other Caribbean ports by sea. By 1830, there were over 20 houses in what would become Lighthouse Point but no public buildings were erected until 1849 when Captains Tuttle and Abraham Lincoln decided to build a lighthouse here because "the navigation [was] so unsafe at night." This first lighthouse only had three lighted windows but later came equipped with four lights using Fresnel lenses which enabled it to serve both maritime traffic passing along its coast watchfully while also warning vessels approaching from horizon to horizon without obstruction; this type of navigational aid became known as a beacon or lighthouses after then future president James Kieft renamed it Fort George Washington Light Station (later renamed Fort Lauderdale) due to American military interests expanding into that area following Spain's cession of Florida following Napoleon's defeat at Waterloo—thus sparing British forces further disruption during war time operations off North America’s Atlantic coastlines despite being located only 12 miles west of Tampa Bay! When captain Abraham Lincoln moved out duty here in 1861 due to service near Jacksonville he installed a fourth lighted window within year which served vessel traffic till 1963 when all lights were turned off 2 days ahead of schedule owing weather concerns!
