Lighthouse Point is a small town located in Brevard County, Florida. The population was 2,851 at the 2010 census. Lighthouse Point is part of the Indian River Beach Metropolitan Statistical Area. The current lighthouse was built in 1966 and has been used for both passenger and freight service since then. The lighthouse is one of only two lighthouses remaining in Brevard County that are still operational; the other is Palm Bay Lighthouse which closed its doors in 2006. The light keeper's quarters are currently used as a community center with various programs available for residents including art classes, cooking demos, parenting classes, fishing trips, etc. One of the reasons why Lighthouse Point remains an important stop for ferries and boats alike is because of its undeveloped land - there are no obstructions such as high hills or reefs that could prevent vessels from docking or landing at the point without issue.
