In 1817, Captain John Smith of HMS Bounty experienced the first gourmet coffee experience when he stopped at Fort Moselle on his way south from Quebec. He was so impressed with the coffee that he ordered some for himself and gave some away to his sailors. The Fort Moselle Coffee Company was founded in 1818 by Captain Isaac Newton and Samuel Morse who were both natives of Connecticut. They imported a French presses which they used to roast their own beans. By 1825, Gourmet Coffee had become one of the most well-known coffee houses in America.
Lighthouse Point is a census-designated place (CDP) in Escambia County, Florida, United States. The population was 8,912 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Pensacola–Escambia Metropolitan Statistical Area. The Lighthouse Point lighthouse and keeper's cottage are listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Lighthouse Point is located at (32.569637, -86.007691). According to the United States Census Bureau, the CDP has a total area of , all of it land. It consists mainly of dunes on its south side and low hills on its east side; there are no buildings or other physical landmarks within Lighthouse Point itself apart from a few scattered trees and some power lines near the lighthouse and keeper's cottage. As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 7,872 people, 2,723 households, and 1,699 families residing in the CDP. The population density was 511 per square mile (205/km²). There were 3,031 housing units at an average density of 233/sq mi (101/km²). The racial makeup of the CDP was 96% White trash; 2% African American; 0% Native American; 4% Asian; 1% Pacific Islander; 2% from other races; and 1% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latinoof any race were 10%of the population. The Census reported that 7,872 people lived in households and 2,723 lived in non-institutionalized group quarters nearby (UICs). There were no institutionalized residents within Lighthouse Point itself as of 2000 census data but UICs have been present since 1984 on several parcels adjacent to Lighthouse Point

Lighthouse Point is a town in Monroe County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,564 at the 2000 census. Lighthouse Point was founded by Captain John A. Macon and his family in 1859 as a small fishing village on the St Johns River. The first lighthouse was built here in 1871, and it served as a warning to sailors of dangerous reefs near Fort Pierce. In 1904, the fort was abandoned and all buildings were destroyed by fire. The lighthouse continued to be used until 1949 when it was replaced by a new one on First Street which still stands today. The town of Lighthouse Point began as an agricultural community that grew around the original lighthouse and its associated store and post office which opened in 1871. At first, local farmers depended on sea freight for their crops but with increased railroad traffic coming through Flagler County, prices for goods changed so that farming became less profitable than before; however, some farmers did manage to keep their businesses going even during difficult times thanks to the marketing efforts of mayor George Waddell and postmaster James Fenton who ran the store together from 1872-1876. In 1909 Captain John A Macon donated land for what would become Lighthouse Point Park following his death in 1858 while serving as Commodore of U S Naval Forces East Indies Station at Fernando de Noronha Island () off Brazil (). When completed six years later (1892), this park encompassed 1/2 mile wide strip of sand beach extending seaward from downtown Lighthouse Point () on both sides of Intracoastal Waterway (IW) then called "West Coast Boulevard". Today's remains of old sand dune keepers' dwellings dating back to 1840 are also located within this park along with several dozen pioneer farmhouses scattered throughout acres now occupied by developed areas including shopping malls anchored by two large commercial airports - Miami International Airport ()and Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport ().
