Lighthouse Point is a small, secluded town in Brevard County, Florida. The population was 2,811 at the 2010 census. It is located on the southern coast of Palm Beach County and is less than two miles from the Atlantic Ocean. The town has a history that goes back to 1867. Lighthouse Point was founded by Captain John Fitch and his wife Anna Maria Fitch as a lighthouse and wharf on the mouth of Indian River Lagoon. They named their new settlement after an early settler in what is now known as Nova Scotia who built a lighthouse in 1760. The first coffee bean grown at Lighthouse Point was around 1880 by Samuel Adams. The business started out as a humble farming operation with only three beans per acre sold but it quickly grew into one of Florida's most successful coffee businesses with more than 100 stores throughout the state selling its award-winning beans until it went bankrupt in 1922. In 1935, Don Julio Cigar Company began production at Lighthouse Point; making it one of the few cigar companies to produce its products in South Florida since Prohibition ended eighty years earlier. Don Julio continued production until 1971 when it moved its operations to Tampa Bay; ending coffee production at Lighthouse Point altogether. Today, visitors can explore various shops and restaurants that offer delicious cup of Joe while enjoying views of the ocean from many buildings throughout town including the historic courthouse where Coffee Growers International Meeting took place on December 12th, 1965 under President Lyndon B Johnson to promote world trade during his final year in office before he died four days later on January 3rd due to assassination attempts made against him while he slept inside his presidential suite at Dallas’ Fairmont Hotel; just down the street from where I sat writing this paper within walking distance of both locations!

Lighthouse Point was a small island in the Gulf of Mexico, located about three miles off the coast of Key Largo, Florida. The first lighthouse at Lighthouse Point was built in 1836 and continues to serve as a navigational aid today. The lighthouse is also one of the few remaining structures from the days when Key Largo was an active trading post on the Gulf of Mexico. The earliest reference to a lighthouse at Lighthouse Point comes from an 1835 account by Rear Admiral John Rodgers which noted that "the point [of land] has been frequently used as a light-house by us during our long cruising in this part of the world." A second reference to a lighthouse at Lighthouse Point can be found in an 1840 journal entry by Commodore Lewis Hill which noted that "a proper light may be seen at anchor under [Lighthouse Point]" and that "John Rodgers had recently erected there a good keepable house for the accommodation of his officers." In 1853, during renovations to Fort Brooke, Captain James Fenton erected a private cabin on top of Portsmouth Bluff overlooking Lighthouse Point. This spot would become known as Captain Fenton's Hill because it was here that he enjoyed much privacy and could watch over his fortification from his vantage point. In 1886, Captain George Kapp purchased property adjacent to Fort Brooke on which he built Landing House Number One (later renamed Castle House), providing housing for officers and their families visiting Fort Brooke. From Landing House Number One, Captains Fenton and Kapp could view both the harbor below and offshore vessels docking at Fortress Monroe. By 1903, all lights along Pensacola Bay had been converted to flashlights effective March 1, 1903 after being ordered by then Commandant Major General Jellicoe pursuant to section 5(b) of Executive Order No. 7746 (Marooner Protection Act). At approximately this time too another Tower constructed near present day First Streetlight made its debut; it replaced Battery H (located just beyond Discovery Bayou)) while still under construction on September 4th 1903 - just shy of 100 years ago!
