Lighthouse Point is a small town located in the Miami-Dade County, Florida area. It is home to the Lighthouse Point Naval and Military Museum, which tells the story of military gifts from all over the world to the United States Naval and Military Academy at Lighthouse Point. The Lighthouse Point Naval and Military Museum was founded in 1936 by Rear Admiral Clarence A. King Jr., who was then Commandant of the USN Academy at Annapolis. At first, it housed only artifacts from the academy's history program; however, in 1961 it became part of the US Army GarrisonMiami-Dade unit. After years of growth, including expansions in 2006 and 2008 that added additional floor space for research and exhibitions, the museum moved into its current location on Fort Myers Boulevard in 2010. One of America's earliest naval academies, Annapolis was founded as a free school for sailors under instruction by sea captain John Smith around 1618 AD. The navy grew out of this institution – when England found itself plagued with plague after an attack on her ships off Boston (the so-called "Great Plague"), King James I ordered that no more English sailors should be allowed to enter his service until he had seen action against some Spanish pirates off Barbados (the "Barbarian Conquest"). As a result, many new captains were hired during those early years who would later become admirals such as George Washington and Thomas Jefferson. In 1814 Annapolis became an independent navyyard with its own commodore – one step up from being just a shipyard designed to build merchant vessels – but it reverted back to crown control within 10 years due largely to budgetary reasons related to Napoleonic Wars spending needs instead of Navy needs (eclipsing HMS Warrior which had been built at Annapolis). The decline began shortly thereafter as Royal Navy officials increasingly looked for other sources for supplies not just because privateers were becoming larger but also because warships could now convoy goods much more effectively than merchant shipping could following Des Moines Passage between Europe through Gibraltar and Cadiz Harbor… And so while our city continued expanding rapidly into prime real estate [on what is now Fort Myers Boulevard] we found ourselves left behind trying desperately to keep pace with another maritime power." Lighthouse Point is a small town located in Pinellas County, Florida. The community was founded by the Lighthouse Keeper's Association in 1884. The present lighthouse, which was built in 1898, is the third largest lighthouse on the west coast of Florida and one of only two remaining historic lighthouses in the United States. The first lighthouse on Lighthouse Point was built in 1801 by Captain James Cook as part of his exploration of the eastern Gulf of Mexico. It burned down in 1802; however, its replacement, known today as the First Mate's House Light, remained operational until it too was destroyed by fire in 1904. In 1884, members of the Lighthouse Keeper's Association were successful in securing a grant from Congress to build a new lighthouse that would serve as a warning signal for ships off Florida's east coast. The new lighthouse became known as Second Mate's House Light and remains standing to this day. The present structure replaced the first lightkeeper's house that had been constructed on land purchased from John Davenport at what is now Lighthouse Point Boulevard and State Road 54 about one mile northeast of town center. That first structure served as an adobe 505-square-foot (46 m2) wooden tower with a Fresnel lens and five white Fresnel lenses used for navigation purposes only; it consisted of an octagonal core surrounded by four circumferential walls made out of heavy posts driven intothe ground and surmounted by an octagonal cupola painted red or green to show which way north or southward lookouts could be seen from within the keepers' quarters above. In 1898, construction began on what is now called Second Mate's HouseLight II; it was designed by architect Elisha Swayne and built at a cost of $1 million dollars using fieldstone quarried near Pensacola Beach. With its limestone exterior and copper-hued bellhousing, Second Mate's HouseLight II became oneof America’s most distinctive lighthouses ever erected – remaining active until her final destruction by fire on October 19th 1974 aged 106 years old! In 1934, following passage through Section 2 (c) (4) Fla Statutes Amendment No XIV providing for fire insurance for open areas including certain typescasting operations undertaken without prior written consent from owner or operator thereof §2(c)(4), Governor Pompous Columbo issued Executive Order No 7190 ordering all state agencies carrying out such operations subject to regulation under sections 1 et seq., 2 et seq., 3A et seq.; §1A included but not limited to property owned or leased by state government agencies involved therein rendering navigational services pursuant thereto In pursuance thereof all state departments having jurisdiction over those areas are directed forthwith to erect appropriate signs reading “Fire Insuring Service," at each place where military personnel may be quartered while engaging in such activity fire fighting etc…. [emphasis added] This order also required approval before any typecasting operation could take place from any point within fifty miles radius coastal city limits without prior written consent form either owner or tenant concerned .
