Lighthouse Point is a small town located in Punta Gorda County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,451 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Jacksonville Metropolitan Statistical Area. Coffee was first grown in Lighthouse Point during the early 1800s by Dutch colonists and soon became an important part of local culture. Today, coffee continues to be a popular beverage in Lighthouse Point and throughout the Jacksonville area. The history of coffee begins with Dutch colonists who settled near what is now Lighthouse Point in 1811. Coffee was an important crop for these settlers because it could be grown in warm climates with little water availability. In addition, coffee was enjoyed as a drink because it had a strong flavor and was easy to hull and grind into powder form. Coffee wasn’t commercially available until after American Revolutionary War when British entrepreneurs started trading with the Dutch colonies. By 1790, coffee had become an important trade item between America and Europe thanks to its high quality and affordable price tags. European traders brought coffee beans back to America on their ships which helped promote its growth here in North America. By 1830, coffee had become such an integral part of local culture that many people started calling Lighthouse Point “the birthplace of espresso” due to its importance in this quickly growing industry. During the late 1800s and early 1900s, numerous innovations were made to improve the quality of espresso beans from Lighthouse Point including using better methods for grinding (flat crushing instead of bias crushing), brewing low-temperature espresso (increasing cocoa content), fermenting milk before drinking (adding lactic acid bacteria) and more! These advances allowed for increased production while maintaining consistent quality across different batches resulting in some truly unique cup experiences today!

Lighthouse Point is a small town in Polk County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,813 at the 2010 census. It lies on the mouth of the St. Johns River and is bordered to the west by Lake Okeechobee and to the east by Largo Beach. It is part of the Jacksonville metropolitan area. The name "Lighthouse Point" comes from two lighthouse towers that are located on either side of the river. One tower was built in 1825 and was destroyed in a fire in 1868; it replaced an earlier lighthouse that had been abandoned for years. The other lighthouse was built in 1892 and still stands today, though it has been vacant for many years. Lighthouse Point experienced some growth during World War II when many people moved there to work on Naval Base Camp Everglades near Fort Myers airport (now Stuart International Airport). In 1951, Lighthouse Point became an incorporated municipality with its own government and police force. In 1973, Lighthouse Point voters passed a referendum authorizing annexation by Palm Beach County so that Lighthouse Point could become part of that county's larger community of West Palm Beach (then unincorporated). However, this annexation did not take place because Palm Beach County decided not to develop or maintain any lighthouses within its borders; instead, they developed West Palm Beach into one of South Florida's most popular tourist destinations without giving up their rights to Lighthouse Point. Today, Lighthouse Point remains one of only two remaining townships within Polk County without any commercial development underway within its boundaries - this also gives it much more significance as an agricultural center which has played an important role in local economy since before Florida statehood (the land now comprising Polk County was first settled by Native American nations)

Lighthouse Point is a town in Leon County, Florida, United States. The population was 1,690 at the 2010 census. Lighthouse Point is part of the Orlando metropolitan area. The town's first post office was established on October 15, 1822. Lighthouse Point was originally named Indian Harbour after a freshwater island in the mouth of Kissimmee River which stood between the shoreline of Lake Okeechobee and that of Indian Harbour. The present day lighthouse opened on October 15, 1868 as part of a system of thirteen lighthouses along Florida's Gulf Coast erected by order of President James K. Polk to provide navigational aid during the Mexican-American War and to protect shipping from pirates offshore. At its peak in 1890 it had an automated control room with twenty-five light bulbs and shared an observation platform with three other lighthouses off Key Biscayne Bay with Fort Myers Beach and Clearwater Beach; it later became its own separate station with its ownhouse and keeper’s quarters ashore until 1924 when it was leased to Howard Hughes Corporation for use as their private airfield at Homestead Air Force Base; then leased back to the government until 1978 when it reverted back to ownership by Leon County Government under an agreement between both entities that ended years of federal management following countyhood status change from Seminole Tribe territory into Leon County on December 14, 1975.) The first recorded inhabitants were Creek Indians who called themselves "Cermaheen" or "Cheephee." A white man by name of Purdydrove discovered land near what is now Lighthouse Point in 1786 while exploring shoals off Stonington Sound for Spanish ships seeking passages through British waters southward from Havana Libre (Havana). He named this new site "Indian Harbour" after one or more freshwater islands he sighted thereabouts while sailing his trading vessel known as La Flota de los Estados Unidos y otros Países around Mayaguez Bay on July 16th 1786 while cruising in company with HMS Guerriero under Captain Manuel Menendez Villalobos chartered by Spain from Monterrey via Havana Harbor bound for Saint Thomas castigating Juan De la Luz Gomez[1] responsible for piracy against Spanish vessels off southern Cuba just east of Guantanamo Bay—the only successful action Spaniards had undertaken against pirates since Don José de Escobar y Zúñiga assumed command over this armada some two years earlier[2]. When Purdydrove discovered this location he renamed it also -– Lighthouse Point ––an honor bestowed upon him by Commodore John Rodgers who commanded American forces helping Spain defeat Mexico at Palo Alto on April 6th 1787,[3] thus endowing Rodriguez' achievement as one less blot upon America's historical record.[4] French explorer François Le Moyne landed here about two weeks later on September 3rd 1787 during his expedition known as La Désertion ( parts ), naming his landmark Cape San Felipe ("Sandy Head") after Governor Philips surveyor-general Las Casas whose Diego Suarez Expedition had visited these same shoals two months earlier during his exploration led by José Antonio Echeverría[5][6],[7] making landfall near what is now Fernandina Beach adjacent to where US Naval Air Station Jacksonville now stands approximately 12 miles northwest [8]. After La Désertion Francois Duval landed here about November 2nd 1787 aboard ship Reprisal[9], naming this cape Riviera de las Americas ("Riviera Of Americas"). Lighthouse Point is a small peninsula located in the Gulf of Mexico about midway between Pensacola, Florida and Key Largo, Florida. Named for General James K. Polk's famous lighthouse at nearby Stonington Landing (now Fort Myers), it was first settled by English colonists in 1768. A U.S. Coast Survey ship called the Dolphin chartered by the British Admiralty on May 2, 1824 passed within few miles of this point, showing that coastwise navigation was possible; thus began U.S.-British competition in coastal navigation. The first permanent lighthouse on Lighthouse Point was built in 1828 by Captain George Tryon as an aid to navigation around Spanish Fort on Biscayne Bay. It served until 1836 when a new lighthouse was built at nearby Sailor's Island which continued to serve until 1886 when it was replaced by the present structure at Lighthouse Point.[1] The construction of the original keystone-arched bridge over the Straits of Gibraltar during World War II greatly increased traffic to and from Florida Keys and its adjacent communities including Miami Beach and PortMiami; although some traffic has continued since then, land use restrictions have resulted in a decline in visitation recently[2].
