The USAF has a rich history in Longwood, Florida. The first military installation in the area was Fort Worth Army Air Field, which opened in 1941. In 1949, the USAF activated its first airbase here when it took over Krome Air Base. From then until 1993, Longwood AFB served as the home of the 7th Airlift Wing and Detachment 1 Tactical Airlift Command. In 1992, however, Longwood AFB became operational as an independent United States Air Force unit under the command of First Allied Aerospace Forces (FAAF). The wing's mission is to provide airlift services within allied airspace. In 1993, Operation Desert Storm resulted in increased demand for USAF airlift services and prompted AFHQ to reevaluate Longwood AFB's role as a base for USAF operations in Central Florida. After careful study of available land and airspace within Fort Walton Beach County, AFHQ determined thatLongwood would not be able to meet all future demands for military activity due to its remote location and limited infrastructure capacity. Accordingly, on 17 October 1993 AFHQ transferred control of Longwood AFB from First Allied Aerospace Forces to the Air Mobility Command (AFC) effective 15 November 1993. Since 1994,Longwood AFB has been home to two primary wings: The 7th Airlift Wing ( snatch-and-grab ) and Detachment 1 Tactical Airlift Command (TAC). These two wings are responsible for providing worldwide aerial lift supplies for major belligerents such as NATO/coalition forces operating inside or outside Europe; tenant nations such as Taiwan; humanitarian missions; law enforcement activities; Search And Rescue; Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicle deployments; support elements assigned to coalition warfighting commands located throughout Southwest Asia; Global Hawk assets supporting Joint Task Force Gulfstream III multinational operation Eagle Claw II); Provide real-time situational awareness capabilities on a worldwide basis through AN/PRC-114 airborne video link with centralized command post at RAF Fairford England Air Force personnel have been stationed atLongwood since 1941 when Fort Worth Army Air Field was activated by the USAAF

Longwood is a small town in Florida. It has a population of about 1,500 people and the mayor is Bob Purdy. The town was founded in 1892 by Representative James Long and his wife Eliza. It is located in southwestern Broward County. The town's economy is based on agriculture, tourism, and local service industries. Longwood's main shopping center is located near the airport. There are also several small businesses in the town. Longwood was originally developed as a resort community for wealthy white residents of South Florida. After World War II, however, the population began to grow rapidly due to the discovery of oil reserves in nearby Fort Myers and Marathon County. In recent years, Longwood has become an increasingly popular tourist destination due to its beautiful scenery and relaxed lifestyle.
The USAF gift history goes back to World War II. In 1941, the United States began developing the B-29 Superfortress bomber. The airplane was designed to be able to fly at high altitudes and bomb targets deep in Germany and Japan. By 1944, the bomber had been tested and was ready for production. In 1945, the USAAF ordered a total of 326 B-29s from Boeing. These planes were designated as the “Superfortresses” because they could fly at 5,000 feet and carry more than 1,500 pounds of bombs. The Superfortresses were very advanced airplanes and many of them became legendary in the USAF. One of these famous Superfortresses was the Lockheed P-38 Lightning fighter aircraft. This fighter was designed by Lockheed Aircraft Company and built by two companies: Lockheed Martin Corporation (LMC) and Boeing Aircraft Company (BA). The P-38 Lightning was one of America’s most successful fighters during World War II. It flew over 65 percent of all combat missions in war against Nazi Germany alone! During World War II, both LMC and BA developed additional models of this fighter: the North American R-2800D Thunderjet Fighter; the Republic F4U Corsair; and eventually,the Boeing 747 airliner series which started service with United Airlines in 1970!
In 1947, the USAF initiated the purchase of surplus World War II bombers. This led to the creation of the Air Force Bomber Command and its subordinate organizations: The Eighth Air Force (Eighth Air Force), The Ninth Air Force (Ninth Air Force), The Twelfth Air Force (Twelfth Air Forces), and The Fifteenth Air Force (Fifteenth Air Forces). Each air force was responsible for a certain number of bombers. In 1952, these numbered air forces were divided into wings and groups. Groups were redesignated as squadrons in 1957. This gave each squadron a more definite name and it was easier to identify them when they needed to be called upon during combat operations. The first Boeing 747 airliner was delivered to the USAF in 1960. This aircraft became known as "The Eagle" because it had been designed by Boeing Aircraft Company president Harry Truman himself with his initials, H J Stalin on one side and "USA" on the other side. In 1970, McDonnell Douglas Corporation became part of Lockheed Martin Company which merged with Marietta Aviation Company in 1982 creating Lockheed Martin Space Systems Company which also produced both 747s and A-10 Warthog jets for US military use starting in 1988
Longwood is a small town in Brevard County, Florida, United States. The population was 2,895 at the 2010 census. It is part of the Palm Beach-Brevard-West Palm Beach metropolitan area. The name "Longwood" was given to the town by Colonel Edward Long and his family in 1847. The first post office in Longwood was established in 1851. The first school was started on a farm near present day US Route 1 and US Highway 3A in 1853. The Post Office closed on October 15, 1959 due to budget cuts by then-Governor Jeb Bush. Since its establishment as a community, Longwood has had many residents who have played an important role in Florida's history or culture including: Senator George Fenton (1922–2007), Governor Buddy MacGregor (1975–1990), Congressman Ron Paul (2005–2018), Doctor Roy Roberts (1929–present) and Dr. Jerry Ladd (1974–2015). Several businesses have also been located here such as Saban Brands Inc., Dillard's Department Store, Waffle House restaurants and Sears & Roebuck department stores before moving out of state for better economic opportunities or leaving their footprints behind like Ford Motor Company's Plant 453 which still stands today across from Interstate 95 east of town with its own museum that tells the local history of this plant dating back to 1916 when it operated as an aluminum smelter; Chiquita Brands International announced plans to close all Longwood facilities effective January 1st 2021 but later postponed these plans after protests from locals; Hobby Lobby Stores Inc.'s main location opened up next door to long since vacated Sears & Roebuck locations; now known as Invesco Field at Lake Worth Stadium which seats over 66,000 people throughout baseball seasons.; and most recently Walmart Supercenter which anchors one block off I-95 south of town center complete with restaurants including Chiquita Brands International’s former flagship store Shawarma Pointe Turkish Grill which has been open continuously since 1978 with more than 20 menu items including chicken entrée tandoori spices served inside the oven like no other restaurant.; Many tourist attractions are also located within easy reach such as Walt Disney World Resort just outside town limits or Universal Studios Hollywood just minutes away down I-95A Exit 232., making it easy for visitors who are looking for something more than just a simple rural stop on their road trip into Central Florida.:
Longwood was founded by pioneers in 1836. The town was named after Edwin Long, a Revolutionary War veteran and landowner. The first post office in the town was established in 1839. In 1856, the town incorporated as a municipality. In 1915, Longwood became a university town and remains so today.
