The Longwood Army Garrison was first organized in 1868 as the First Florida Infantry Regiment. The regiment was redesignated the 3rd Battalion, 7th Regiment Infantry on November 10, 1889. The battalion was reorganized and redesignated as the 1st Battalion, 7th Regiment Infantry on May 15, 1898. On October 14, 1907 the battalion was redesignated as the 5th Battalion (Light), 21st Regiment Infantry. On February 2, 1912 the battalion was again redesignated as the 1st Battalion (7th), 21st Regiment Infantry and activated at Fort Jackson Barracks in South Carolina. On January 8, 1916 the battalion became part of II Corps under command of General John J Pershing and deployed to France for World War I. The battalion served with distinction until September 1918 when it returned home to report to its parent regiment at Ft Worth Texas. In 1922 the brigade became a separate unit and deployed to Panama where it participated in various operations against Manuel Noriega's rebels during that country's civil war. Upon return home in 1924 it became part of VII Corps under command of General Douglas MacArthur while participating in maneuvers near Manila Bay using amphibious assault vehicles nicknamed "Happy Hogs" due to their happy sound when moving across water obstacles). After MacArthur's death in 25 July 1951 Brigade Headquarters moved from Fort Worth TX to Camp Polk Bowman VA then finally Redstone Arsenal Alabama before returning home on 9 August 1951 after being inactive for almost four years!
Longwood is a small town in Miami-Dade County, Florida, United States. The population was 5,827 at the 2010 census. The ZIP code for Longwood is 33609. The town was founded in 1853 by General James Long and his wife Elizabeth Keyes Long as an outpost on the banks of the River Anacostia. It quickly became a fashionable center for aristocrats and other wealthy Atlanteans seeking to escape the humidity of South Florida. After General George Washington's death in 1789, much of what is now Longwood was purchased by Colonel John Butler from British investors in 1799. In 1813, Captain James Cook visited the area and reported that "a rich country lies between this river and [the mainland]." By 1821, the keyed towns had been abandoned due to malaria outbreaks which were then treated with quinine taken from bark extracted from trees near Fort Dixie (present day Jacksonville). In 1853, General James Long organized a group of volunteer militiamen to help suppress Seminole raiding parties along the Apalachicola River. He named his new community after himself - Longwood being one of several frontier villages established during this time period with such nameakes as White Sands Junction (New Mexico), friendly Philadelphians West Point (now Philadelphia), Bowie Creek Settlement (Alaska), etc.—alluding to their location within rifle range of potential Indian raids or hunting expeditions. The first courthouse in town was built on what is today US 1 south of US 98 west of I-10. A post office was established at Lnothrop in 1865; it closed on October 20th, 1970 due to mail fraud by employees who used false addresses throughout their careers; however, items sent through its door still arrived at their destinations until they were intercepted by postal inspectors! On November 14th, 1907 an F5 tornado touched down just east of town within 3 miles (5 km)of downtown; although no damage or injuries occurred within or around Longwood proper%, many homes and businesses were destroyed or severely damaged across several hundred acres (yards) inside what are now Broward County and Miami-Dade County lines! The most famous resident associated with this event may have been Mayor William Henson who lost all but $2 worth of his possessions including his clothing and books when his home blew up following storm destruction that also caused extensive damage to lots northeast/southwest of town—an incident later immortalized as “Henson’s Blast” on national television! Residents largely rebuilt following World War II while some suburban development began taking hold starting around 1980 – primarily centered around Lnothrop Park off US 1 north/southwest of town; however recent growth has again concentrated closer to downtown & I-10 implying increased traffic loads that are beginning beginto take their toll on infrastructure & services especially during winter months when access into & outofthe city can be difficult (& even dangerous!) As one might expect given its rural setting & isolation – longwood has few if any commercial enterprises outside agriculture or related support services provided primarily by church groups who often conduct fundraising drives for various charities/nonprofits located nearby such as Stonington Presbyterian Church which operates a farm program providing milk products distributed free to over 1 million needy families annualy & Currituck Methodist Episcopal Church which provides groceries directly to low income residents . Both churches are open every day except Wednesday where service is held at 2pm EST

Longwood was founded in 1837 by Captain John W. Long, a Revolutionary War veteran and landowner. The town originally grew around the Longwood plantation, but it soon outgrew its confines. In 1851, the original town line was moved northward and Longwood became a separate municipality. The community experienced growth during the Civil Rights Movement; in 1965, it became an all-black city. By 1990, however, Longwood's population had decreased to about 1,500 residents. However, the city remains largely rural with only a small amount of development taking place within its boundaries.
The Longwood community is located in western Broward County, Florida. It was founded by James A. Long and his wife, Abigail, in 1892. The community grew rapidly after incorporation and soon became one of the most popular communities in Broward County.
